Virus Atube_Catcher

Dear all, I installed the atube catcher program, avast did not detect it as a virus. What I did was go to the website to check if there was a virus. These are the links, notice that Avast does not detect it as a virus, but several antivirus programs detect it as a threat, is Avast failing? Below are the test links.

It is an AdAware/PUP so that is why it is not considered real malware. Many other AVs of a certain level do not detect it.

Since it is AdAware/PUP, Avast should already detect it as a potential threat.
If you look at large companies that are concerned with digital security, this type of program has great dangerous potential. I believe Avast should do the same.
The question is since it is a threat, why didn’t Avast put it on the list like other renowned products?

Unfortunately for Ad Aware/PUPs not all are detected, and for example even Bitdefender and Kaspersky do not always detect all PUPs or Ad Aware.
Then Virus Total looks at what is in the signatures, possibly Avast could intervene with behavioral analysis and eliminate it subsequently.

In any case, I have already sent it to the Avast team for analysis, but unfortunately I will not receive any results from this analysis.

Do you have avast PUP detection turned ON ?

The engine used at VirusTotal is not identical to the one in your program and may show different scan result

The criteria for detecting/identify something as PUP is not the same at all vendors

Where is this option to put, because the avast I’m using has the default settings.
Could you tell me where it is?

Good afternoon, I looked at the entire tutorial, these options are already checked by default, but I couldn’t find the PUP, why isn’t it appearing with that name, could it be something else?

Its there as it said in the link given. Settings > Protection > Core Shields > Potentially unwanted programs & tools

Notify me about potentially unwanted programs & tools > Notify me about potentially unwanted programs.

See attached.

Confirmed, they were all already marked the same as their attachment. Even so, Avast does not detect the threat. What is the Atube Catcher?

I haven’t a clue what “Atube Catcher” is, but Google does - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Atube+Catcher

From that I have no idea if it would be considered suspect/malicious or a potentially unwanted program.

This is a program that downloads videos from YouTube.

Yes that is what the google hits say.

The fact that it can download video clips from YouTube doesn’t mean it is a virus or potentially unwanted program when ‘you’ downloaded it. Nothing to stop you sending it to avast for analysis.

I have program that will download You Tube video clips from channels that I follow.

I sent it to the avast team for them to analyze. but how am I going to receive the result, because where I sent it to him there is no way for me to know the result.

Could you tell me how you download videos from YouTube? what tool do you use?

  1. Presumably you would only know if they decided it was suspect if they subsequently detected it (and added it to detections) when you tried to use it or download it again.

  2. Its a browser of sorts but only for YouTube clips called FreeTube.
Personally I don’t use it so much as it isn’t as flexible as a conventional browser and using YouTube.

Realmente, so irei saber quando for usar ou fazer o download o programa novamente.
Já em relação ao programa FreeTube eu vou da uma olhada para ver se consigo baixar.

How else would you know, when avast didn’t previously detect it, you would only know if it were run or downloaded or possibly if you ran a scan. Avast doesn’t check retrospectively, it doesn’t even know you have it until you run it.

See attached screenshot small section of freetube.

How I found out that Atube Catcher is infected.
1- I downloaded it from the website, then I put it on the virustotal website and other tools to do the SCANNING, the vast majority of the tools reported that it was a threat.
2- I scanned the program with Avast and it didn’t detect anything. That’s how I came to the forum to talk about what happened.

  1. I know that from your previous posts. There are many different classifications on the VT results.
  2. Having reported it to Avast you will have to wait to see if that changes.
