Virus Chest Problem

Okay, I just got my avast up and running, but when I open up my Virus Chest, it says that it booted up with errors. When I check the error tab, it says

Program cannot use Chest client: (null)
—>Description: Virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed.

I couldn’t find anything on the FAQ and I don’t want my computer getting infected, so any help would be much appreciated.

RPC error is generally corrected by repairing avast installation.
Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Change/Remove > Repair option.
Maybe it’ll be good to boot.
Do you use any other antivirus in your system? 8)

Welcome

Thanks, I’ll try reinstalling it. And yeah, my compy has AVG Free Edition on it too, but they are compatable, or so I’m told…

Welcome to the forums, D.Pedigo

I think you may have been told wrong. It is unlikely that 2 resident anti-virus programs will work correctly on the same computer. They will conflict with each other and therefore give you less protection than either one will alone.

Perhaps someone else will also post about this.

Older versions of AVG didn’t cause any problem, however the latest versions has additional functionality and it can cause problems.

I believe Tech has done extensive testing to try and get AVG 7 to work as a backup scanner but couldn’t get it to work so it was uninstalled.

In fact, if AVG has not its residents installed, it works perfectly like a backup, second, non-resident scanner with avast.
I never tested the two residents togheter (some people say they’re compatible but, sooner or later, I think they won’t…).
