:-[ This morning that lady’s voice did not tell me, “my avast virus database has been updated.” Instead I see the message that the last encountered error: the package is broken? So, instead of being updated to the latest version (120219-0), I still have the last version (120218-2). Now what?
We could some more info please. OS, which version of avast and other security software you have now or ever had? If you uninstalled any security software, how was it uninstalled? Have you tried to manually update the virus definitions? ???
reboot and wait 10 minutes…see if it update
Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
You may need to reboot after the repair.
If that doesn’t work, try a Manual update of VPS - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 31MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
Note: Ignore the file name in the images of the page that is displayed after clicking the download link, they are for the main program, not for vpsupd.exe which will be downloaded.
