Iv’e been unable to update virus definitions for months now. I’ve tried the troubleshooters and repair features and still no luck. Any suggestions out there?
Are you getting any errors, if so what ?
I have virus definitions set to Automatic and no issues here.

Did you install a firewall? The updates are carried out by icarus.exe. The icarus.exe creates a copy of itself in constantly changing temp directories. As a result, the update cannot be released in the firewall and is blocked.
Avast is aware of the problem, but cannot offer a solution.
