Virus, Disabled Internet Connection

My brother has a virus on his computer that has disabled his internet connection.
His Anti-Virus Program expired.

Here’s what I was planning to do.

-Download Avast; Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes. Save to disc.
-Uninstall whatever security products he has installed.
-Install these programs on the computer (I’m hoping it’s possible to do this, he’s not very good at explaining computer stuff. I haven’t seen the computer yet, so I don’t know how bad it is.)
-Scan with these programs in Safe Mode.
-Run CCleaner; Check Registry.
-Hopefully it should be fixed?

Should this work?

I don’t have a lot of information.
I’m assuming it’s WIN XP.

Please let me know anything that will help.

Thank You

I’d add SuperAntiSpyware as well, and also download the latest definitions files and put them on the same disc so you can update without web access.

If the virus damaged your internet connection, once you’ve eliminated it, I recommend using winsock xp fix (a small Canadian utility) to repair the damage that the virus could have done in the winsock system.

I’ve used many times with good results.

Thank You, I’ll bring this program along as well.

Thank you for this program as well.

If you know of any other programs that might be helpful, please post them up.
