Virus in Non-Existing Folder?

Hello, avast! community.

I’ve been playing Minecraft mulitplayer when a blue screen (Windows crashed) appeared. Ever since, I’ve been scanning my computer over night when I sleep. Every time the scan is complete, it finds virus in the folder which does not exist. I turned on the option to view hidden folders, but it isn’t there. I also tried to search for it, but Windows found nothing.

Since the folder doesn’t exist, I’ve been wondering; is this real or fake? Should I be concerned or not?

A virus is in this folder:

E:\System Volume Information\

(NOTE: My system (WinXP) is on C: disk.)

follow this guide and attach (not copy and paste) logs from Malwarebytes / OTL / aswMBR

you can test something here

see screenshot #7
http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/Avast-Home-Edition-Screenshot-6474.html

if you untic the follow links during scan

does that change your scan result?

I’ve attached the log. A virus is now found in registry.

Should I continue reading that thread or will I get help here?

when all logs are attached…help will arrive

Oh sorry.

When I read “Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.”, I thought other part of the thread was useless. Alright. I will post all logs soon.

all logs mentioned in post from adotd

When I finished RogueKiller step, I didn’t know shoould I continue because I do not have internet and firewall problems.

(I did not include the log that I’ve posted before.)

Since I couldn’t attach more than four files in the previous reply, I will attach it here.

I hope I didn’t miss any log.

Hi Rocketalypse

Can you attach a print screen of the threat that avast gives.

You can find what it found by

Opening avast user interface
Click scan computer
Click Scan Logs

If possible, may be usefull for one of the malware removers to look at 8)

It shows only when I fully scan my computer. I will do it right now.
Sure, give me a second.

Here are those scan logs.

I dont know when a malware specialist will be on, i suggest a nice cup of drink while you are waiting 8)

There may be time differerences, keep a eye out on your post 8)

Sure.

those detected as PUP are not virus = Possible Unwanted Program

the strange thing here is that system restore does not show same place as the OS…
have you moved the os to another disk or something

anyway since all detection are in system restore i would turn off system restore rebot and turn it back on
that should remove it all…and maybe system restore will show at correct place next time

you may wait for Essexboy to confirm…and check your logs before you do anything

Alright. Thank you for telling me what PUP is.
Anyway, I haven’t moved OS to another disk. I installed WinXP on Local Disk C:.

Go to Control Panel > System
Select the system restore tab
Remove the tick from Driv E
Reboot and rescan… It should be gone

I recently scanned my computer and it didn’t find any virus. I will scan it over night again and if it finds virus, I will do what you said.

Thanks.
