Virus keeps comming back, boot scan won't work.

Currently, on my computer, there have been constant various virus attacks (some of the virus names were lsass.exe and sys32, and other things).
The delete option will not get them deleted.
I tried a boot scan, but every time, the boot scan didn’t work and my computer just turned on as usual.
Please help.
Thank you

Hi…

It may be that your copy of avast has been corrupted in some way by the infections. See if Housecall can assist…

You can slso try a regimen that a member of this forum, Tech, has created, go to the fourth post of this thread…

Do you mean this boot scan - If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan will take place followed by the opening of the Simple User Interface, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.

If so can you boot into safe mode (if so try running a scan from there, you need to use the desktop shortcut to start avast) ?

Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
What is your OS ?

If it keeps coming back, there is likely to be an undetected or hidden element to the infection that restores or downloads the file again.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).

  1. SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version.
  2. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware freeware version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later.

I’m running on Windows XP.
Also, how can I empty my temp files?
I’m going to try these things, now.
Thank you!

Ah, thank you.
How do I start in safe mode?

Hi…

If holding down the button doesn’t work just try tapping it continually until you see the menu screen.

CCleaner is good at cleaning out Temp files plus a lot more:

There was a link in my original post (the pchell.com one) about how to to this, I pre-empted your question ;D
