I also get the file name as C:\Windows\rico.exe
I can’t find this file anywhere (I have enabled seeing hidden files, etc). I saw a post on this that you need to perhaps remove winpup.exe from the registry, but I can not find this either. Every time I try to run Windows Media Player I get the Virus message and can not do anything.
It will not let me move it to the chest or delete it - access violation.
Has anyone been able to get rid of this?

ran ad-aware - deleted some things that looked “bad”

or
OriginalFilename : rico.exe ?
what about cwshredder, spybot, Trend & RAV ?
did you try moving the file to chest in SAFEMODE ?

OK, thanks - I’ll try those…
the one thing I did try was to run Avast in safe mode, but the one window that describes how to do everything was there. There was another “window” - at least on the taskbar, but there was no window - move or close were my only options, so I wasn’t able to run the anti-v in safe mode -
is there something I need to do in order to run it in safe mode or should I just try again?

Just to clarify,
There were 2 things on the taskbar - one was the window that tells you how to use the avast scanner and the other was, presumably, the program (that has the play button to start the scan & all)…at least that is what normally is there in normal mode.
in safe mode, I still saw both in the taskbar, but could not get to the actual program/scanner window. The only choices were to move or close the window - I closed the info window, and the other was still in the taskbar, but I could not get to it.
Anyway, I’ll try all of your suggestions this evening - thanks!
RAV found a couple things the others did not - one was that my windows media player was hit (this is the one that would cause the virus message usually), but avast software said it was a file in my windows dir, when apparently it was the player itself that was hit. I deleted that file & reinstalled winplayer9 & everything seems fine. Hopefully.
