Virus Problems

Hey folks, do you discuss AVAST anti virus problems here ?
I do a scan on my computer and the scan shows no infected file BUT says some files could not be scanned and there is a long list of them …shown as error…and yet ,every few minutes there is an announcement by AVAST Threat has been detected…what is going on …here ?
How can I be sure I have removed all viruses?
Thanks
By the way,I am having logging in problems and with Internet explorer in A BRAND NEW COMPUTER
Could this be virus related
Thanks

Hi anilkumar, i would suggest doing a boot time scan with avast first and see if that help’s then download malwarebytes for you to run a scan with if you think there maybe still a problem with your machine.

Files that can not be scanned is normal and does not mean that they are infected, the reason may be that they are password protected......or from another security program that protect its files, like avast! will do...

Try this

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always run update before you scan so you have the latest database
click on the remove selected button to quarantine anything found
you may post the scan log here

I see you have another post here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=65164.msg550654#msg550654
and you are talking about virut ?

If you are infected with virut then you are in big trouble, the expert`s usually recomend a complete reinstall…

Pondus if the op has virut it can be repaired, avast can fix this as can malwarebytes.

I dont think Essexboy will agree with you on that.....he may comment on this ?

I was just reading another post where RejZor had commented about virut being able to be cleaned,Re: Why avast! doesn’t contain auto-repairing function?
« Reply #1 on: Today at 00:18:03 » Quote unless there are different versions of it and some cant and some can i dont know. Cant hurt to do what i suggested anyway.

The problem with the current version of Virut is that it does not only infect and alter exe files, it tries to infect near enough every file it can get its mitts on. The coding for virut is very sloppy and it is impossible to guarantee that the infected files have been repaired to a suitable degree. Sality is better crafted and can be cured. There may be more recent versions that are better crafted I do not know. I have just finished a system where Virut was reported, but luckily Avast stopped it infecting any other files, although it could not find the trigger file. Once I removed that file then the system ran perfectly

Personaly for Virut I go for a quick clean to enable data to be removed and then reformat, most other file infectors I will clean and then run SFC

I stand corrected and informed, thank’s for that information essexboy

As I say there may be a version that is cleanable, but I have not yet had the experience of one. If I do find a cleanable one that will make me happy - as in my opinion this is the worst and meanest virus of all

essexboy,
Have you ever tried the following???

It's a program I'm about to add to MysharedFiles for the next FreeWare Collected From The WWW addition and I'd like your expert opinion. Thanks

That doesn’t look like to bad a kit Bob, i think that it’s made by McAfee. I know that iobit dont have the best reputation but thay also have the iobit toolbox which also seem’s quite good http://www.iobit.com/toolbox.html

One other tool I’d like a comment on from essexboy:
Emsisoft Emergency Kit

Thats a nice kit to but lacks a few feature’s that the others have included, mind you though i’d put my trust in emsisoft software over either of the other two, maybe one, iobit is the one that lost it’s trust

Popped a few questions to the admin’s over at malwarebytes after a discussion between Pondus and myself and it seems to be of great benifit to be running malwarebytes pro because Malwarebytes pro can block virut by either source or main executable. Just a little bit of info for you if you want that extra protection
