I am running Avast (free edition) , Superantispyware , Threatfire and Windows Defender so surprised and worried about this . Windows Vista ,MSIE 7.0 . Could you please help ,thank you .
1 Download OTL to your Desktop 2 Double click on the OTL icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. 3 Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:
4 Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan won’t take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and paste them into your reply as an attachment.
Sounds like another fake anti-virus app.
What site was this? (Please change the link protocol from http:// to hxxp:// so people can’t click on it accidentally)
Also, what description did this “antivirus” have? If it was “Vista Antivirus 2010”, you’ll want to look at this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antivirus-2010
Many thanks to you both for help . "Computerfreaker " was right on the button with the anti fake virus and the Vista Antivirus 2010 site . I can’t remember the site as I had Googled a query and I think I was redirected to another site where I got the message re . virus scan . I thought at the time it was a wind up , but it was preying on my mind .I couldn’t understand it as I regularly run boot time scans etc.I have ran these programmes today http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/sandbox/default_final.htm (repaired as scan suggested) ,Superantispyware ,Windows Defender and finally Malwarebytes , all clear . Hopefully all o.k now . Once again , many thanks for help .
You might also want to look into the NoScript addon for Firefox; I always use it, and it’s probably saved my hide a couple dozen times. It can be a bit difficult to get used to at first, but over time it gets quite intuitive and doesn’t get in the way much/at all.
