VIRUS / Trojan Attack (SIREFEF-PL) & CRYPT

Hello , I am trying to help my sister recover her pc from a virus attack. She does use the avast antivirus software. The information in the forums have been very helpful.

I am attaching 3 logs based on the recommendations in the forum on what needs to be done to troubleshoot. She now seems to be having problems with a) security (firewall) b) system recovery c) continued unauthorized url attack prompted from avast

  1. The mbar log did to a series of cleaning and looks to of found trojans
  2. the otl crashed with an error list index out of bounds(29) … but looks to have a report
  3. the aswmbr looks to of found some additional problems, but did not have her fix yet as wanted you to review all the logs thus far.

Thanks for the help and direction.

why is malwarebytes log 5 days old?

update mbam run a quick scan and attach new log

malware removers are notified. it may take several hours before one arrive so be patient

Thanks so much for quick reply. My sister Avast had detected some virus/trojans on 07/18 and she moved to chest. She proceeded with boot scan which detected additional high malware attacks, but after those were moved to the chest her pc was still reporting the malicious url error. Further scans from Avast were negative. When I did search through forums it recommended malwarebytes scan and she did that scan/cleanup 5 days ago and that is the log I attached. Further scans seemed to report no issues. She still seems to be having malware issues / recovery problems on her computer.

I had her update the malwarebytes program and that log is still clean, log is below :

Way to go. Y’all deserve a gold medal. It looks like we made good progress. My sister is saying that her security is back (firewall) we were able to do a system restore, and internet browser is not returning the malicious attack notices from avast. Let me know how the logs look and additional/cleanup activities.

She made a mistake and ran otl twice (forget to hit all users) so I have 2 logs for that , and the one for combofix. Combofix did find Rootkit0access in TC/IP Stack (even though not seeing in logs). Also looks like combofix also reported an error while creating log but she says completed (Can not export REGRUNS00 … Error opening file , it maybe or disk/file system error) But after press ok, it did create log that is attached.

all users otl log :

OK a little more to do

  1. Close any open browsers.
  2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
File:: c:\windows\system32\drivers\lgjwnpt.sys

Driver::
sfjpfjkn

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exeWhen finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

K. hopefully this still applies, as she did get another message.

Right after I posted the log, she got another error. So it sounds like we are still having problems, Malicious URL on svchost.exe, and after looks like svchost is using a lot of memory 300k/94% cpu.

I’ll proceed with what you just posted.

K. something strange happened when combofix was running. My sister says that avast was permanently disabled with a red x (and from log I’d agree:AV: avast! Antivirus Disabled/Updated {7591DB91-41F0-48A3-B128-1A293FD8233D})

However during the command prompt of combofix an avast popup came up saying rootkit detected. It said to delete file immediately , and labeled it as svc:catchr rootkit. I told her to ignore, and proceed with combofix … Combofix completed, rebooted, and log attached.

Also then proceeded with 2nd program you recommended which also found a rootkit which said it has cured. Log attached.

Malware = Rootkit.Boot.Piharic , physical drive : \Device\Harddisk0\DR0\

What’s next ?

How is the computer behaving now ?

Actually really well, do you think we got it fixed ? Are the logs clean ?

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix
[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the “x” and “/”)
then click OK

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
