Virus within the Cowon F2?

Avast! caught a Virus within my Cowon F2. I moved it to Virus Chest.

I just opened it and connected the F2 to my computer. I was charging the battery and decided to add some songs by using Jetshell which is a port from Windows Explorer. I formatted the device and updated the Firmware and all seems fine but whta about that Virus? It’s harmless right?

Is this False positive?

Why haven’t you submit it to Jotti or VirusTotal?
You should have sent an email to virus (at) avast.com in order to improve avast detection (both it was false positive and if it was a real virus).
Anyway, thanks for posting.

What is the file name and location, e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?

I use JetAudio (infrequently), but haven’t seen anything on that.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists (Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced and Program Settings, Exclusions) and periodically check it (scan it in the chest), there should still be a copy in the chest even though you restored it to the original location. When it is no longer detected then you can also remove it from the Standard Shield and Program Settings, exclusions.
Also see (Mini Sticky) False Positives, how to report and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.

I believe it’s False Positive as the first link found that file not to be a virus.

Here the path in which I made a copy of the file and extracted it to “My Desktop”

C:\Documents and Settings\Joseh\Desktop\copy.exe[MEW

The best thing to do is send the sample to avast (as Tech mentioned) for analysis so that the VPS may be corrected.

If you were trying to attach something to the post it failed, just a partial path and only certain files can be attached, namely text files.

Ok I’ll do as Tech. said.
