Viruses / Malware not caught by Avast Pro - Help

My web pages are being hijacked by a virus / malware / router / whatever, although I can’t figure out which on. Regardless, this started yesterday, I thought I had it cleaned out but it continues today.

Avast Pro has not caught it although they did catch proquota.ext this morning. I’m stuck. Every time I go to Google to search, find the web page I want and then click on the link, it takes me someplace else.

I have everything in Pro set to High and it is currently running.

Suggestions? Help please

(1) Schedule a Boot Time Scan with Test Archive files enabled…
(2) Download, install & update Malwarebytes Antimalware… Have a scan & post the scan results here…
(3) Download Hijack This… Install it, then run, select scan & save a log file… Copy the contents of the notepad that will pop-up & post it here… Alternatively, you may attach the .txt report file on your next post…

If you are having trouble accessing Malwarebytes or HijackThis sites, you could try could try Hostsxpert, this will not remove any malware, but may help you access sites that are blocked

Hostsxpert, download, unzip, and run it from wherever you downloaded it to.

Run HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager from its new home

Click on “File Handling”.

Click on “Restore MS Hosts File”.

Click OK on the Confirmation box.

Click on “Make Read Only?”

Click the X to exit the program.

It seems like Cyberdefender popped up as a product to purchase.

Can either of you tell me if this is a legit company?

I downloaded Malwarebytes but Cyberdefender also popped up and I want to make sure they are real before I move forward with anything from them…

Thanks for your help

Cyberdefender has nothing to do with MalwareBytes AntiMalware and is most likely a rogue application trying to extort money and or properly infect your system.

Any unsolicited pop-up like this (buy me, etc.) should be treated with the utmost suspicion. How would they know you need it, how would they know your infected, without first having done a scan and or being installed, they can’t.

Whilst an application name can be hijacked (copied) and may be a legitimate program name, the way it is advertises its self is highly suspicious.

-= We’ve got CyberDefender on topic before… Debating whether it was legit or not… So far, majority of info we got speaks of it as a rogue one… Better not install it… MBAM & SAS are waaaaay better…
