I just noticed this new firewall for Vista and Windows 7. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,64950-order,1-page,1/description.html
Does anyone know anything about it?
I have been using the Vista Firewall on my vista machine, and can’t seem to find where it has outbound security. Should I install another firewall? I noticed somewhere there was a special one for Vista.
Ummm i think Win Vista’s Firewall has its outbound protection module turned off by default^^
Start
Type in the search bar…“Firewall”
Select Windows Firewall with advance security
Select properties and “BLOCK all options for the outbound protection”^^(domain, public and private profile)^^
Good luck^^
And about the new firewall thing…I havent heard such a thing^^
Tarq57,
That is the one I was looking at, but I don’t know if I should just stick with the Vista Firewall outbound or go with this new one by Sphinx. they are tooting their own horn at that website.
Maybe the evangelists will give me some more info.

So is the Sphinx software free better than just enabling the Vista firewall outbound protection, and again is it all right to not have outbound protection on my private Home network as it is WEP encrypted.
I was reading information at this website, and there are plenty of things that can be done to prevent hacking.
I don’t know, because I haven’t used it, nor Vista, nor do I have a home network, wireless or otherwise.
I offered the link as a possible option for you to investigate. Sorry I can’t tell you the ins/outs/advantages etc, I think (from what I’ve read) that the Sphinx application would simply make it easier to make rules for the built-in firewall.
Vista/Windows7 built in firewall doesn’t provide a real-time outbound protection, you have to configure it manually. It’s kinda useless. And it doesn’t increase your protection at all, since a malware can easily connect to internet and you won’t notice that. But Vista/Windows7 Firewall Control works in real-time for outbound protection. It can also provide inbound protection for the programs in the list (depending on the settings). I think the built in firewall and this control firewall is a pretty combination for those who just want a basic firewall protection.
It doesn’t use Vista firewall. Once it gets the allowed list from Vista firewall, then it works as a standalone application. See the link: http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/faq.html
But, imho, the free version of Vista Firewall Control should be used with the built in firewall for complete inbound protection.
