Vista "touchy"

I’m not sure if I should post this here or where, but over the last two weeks or so, my PC is so stinking “touchy” that it’s driving me nuts. You click on an email to read it, and it automatically opens up one with which to reply to the original email. I go to drop down my address bar to load up a new Web page and it goes up and down a few dozen times. I try to highlight something in a Word document and sometimes it’ll stay highlighted and then sometimes it won’t.

Do I have some kind of a virus or something? Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

I would really appreciate anyone’s help because this is driving me crazy. I work from home and it’s really starting to reflect in my work product!

Thanks!

I’m not quite sure what the problem is but I had the same problem on my XP machine and I ran Combofix and haven’t had any problems since then you can download combofix from here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
just go underneath “Using Combofix” and can download it from any of the 3 locations

EDIT: What Is your Antivirus? If its Avast!? if it is have you tried a Boot-time scan? if not right click on the Avast! interface and choose “Schedual a boot-time scan” or something very similar and follow the prompts

or a Anti-Spyware application?

I suggest:
SUPERantispyware www.superantispyware.com
Malwarebytes Anti-malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Download the programs, Update them and run a full scan

Hi…

Did something precede this problem, say a program being installed or uninstalled, an e-mail being opened, etc.? Also, what do you have installed in the way of security software?

I’m not sure if it’s virus related at this point but to rule that possibility out, you can go here…

http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

and have an online scan performed. You will need to use Internet Explorer and possibly accept an ActiveX control. Delete anything it finds, particularly anything labeled with a red circle to the left or with the notation of “high risk.” Please post a log if anything like that is found.

Best Regards…

Thank you sooooo much. I am running Avast (love it!) home edition. I’ll try your suggestions right away! Again, thank you so much! ;D

Glad you Like Avast! and please tell us how it turns out after you try what I and Ardvark have suggested

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I’ve downloaded the Spy and Mal programs that you’ve suggested. Although one of my programs still acts somewhat goofy, my computer overall has “straightened” up. I didn’t realize ( :o ) that there were so many different “things” keeping an eye on my computer. I got rid of over 200 items. No wonder it was acting so strange! Thanks again for all your help!
