VPN and our Government

I see this VPN security is your new way to protect computer use from prying eyes.
With the new information our government is reading all our emails and watching our browsing, is this a reliable deterrent, or is that solution a much higher level process?

Thank you.

Lets put it this way, it is better than no protection at all, it isn’t only governments that you have to worry about.

That said I don’t use VPN, though it is something I’m considering for my mobile phone if you have to use a public wifi connection.

VPN isn’t new, the ability to set up Windows to connect to a VPN server has been built into the OS at least since Windows XP. There are plenty of programs available to keep you near enough totally anonymous on the web if you so wish. Just Google or, better, take your first step up the ladder of internet privacy and use a search engine like Startpage or IxQuick instead.

Nothing will ever prevent any government from prying into your/our browsing.
At least not since 9/11/01.

well said … unfortunately it is necessary and it can prevent and help …thats how I see it …

I wouldn’t be so hasty as to endorse anything a government does just with the vague belief it is helping prevent some unspecified threat. We should be making the decisions to give up our freedoms with great care because we won’t ever get them back again.
