VPN doesn't work - neither does 'new' Avast Browser :(

VPN does not now work - neither does ‘new’ Avast Browser on recently re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit pc.

So presumably my private details are at risk - I used ‘bank mode’ a lot, I can’t do this now nor disguise my location - I feel very vulnerable.

What is going on please? The pc now has a clean SSD C-drive and a fresh install of Windows 7, I cannot understand what is upsetting the Secure Browser and VPN program?

Avast have been notified but as yet there is no reply.

Advice please.

Thank you.

‘VPN fail’

Paid for this program - where is my refund please? >:(

Have you tried this for the Secure Browser?

Clean install of the Secure Browser:
Maybe it’s time for a clean install of the Secure Browser
Download the installer from here, https://www.avast.com/en-us/secure-browser
Download the Secure Browser Removal tool from here, https://download.avastbrowser.com/avast_secure_browser_uninstall.exe
Save your Bookmarks via the Book Marks Manager if you have custom bookmarks so you can import them when you re-install.
Uninstall Secure Browser via Programs and Features - Reboot
Run the removal tool, reboot, run the installer import your favorites if you saved them.
A video to help with the installation: https://youtu.be/r_VLA0HMLQM
Report back if that’s solved the problem or not.

Thanks. Followed the instructions. The browser installs after un-installation, but this is what I get when I open it (attached). Safe Mode is also there but just opens as a grey or gray window, just blank grey with the option to revert. Screen-saver will not save it.

The blank white browser window goes black when you ask for a reload, the mouse over it picks up the odd google reference now and then, and then it doesn’t. There seems to be a google page hidden under the blanks.

The browser program appears to be haywire, so too Bank Mode.

VPN refuses to even install - it goes through the three phases then hangs for hours, and never installs.

Please advise.

Am wondering if these problems have been caused by Avast tailoring VPN, Avast Browser and Safe Banking Mode to a Windows 10 configuration? All of these worked faultlessly on my old Hard drive, none of them work properly now, and they will have been updated by Avast since I last downloaded them.

For example, the Secure Browser icon is different to the one I used to use - it is a later version, it doesn’t work on my Windows 7 OS.

Hi a_vast,

Can I ask if you are able to install SecureLine VPN using the standalone installer (which can be downloaded here) rather than installing through the Avast Pro Antivirus application?

Okay thanks, SP1 was not installed because Windows 7 updates all failed. I now have SP1 manually downloaded & installed so can run SecureLine.

One of the problems with not having your system specs in your signature is that we have to guess.
Not using a fully updated OS can quite often cause unexpected problems.

Thanks. I run several pc’s,

Secure Browser is still no-go on this one though.

Am running a good if veteran AMD 2Core 2.8GHz Windows 7 Home Premium. It was suggested to me that upgrading to a SSD would improve the computer, it has, but it has also wiped out ALL the W7 updates & so destabilized the system to the extent that Avast Browser cannot function - I don’t know exactly why. Am now told by the Dell forum that I am practically wasting my time trying to update because W7 is such an old OS, this is the same forum which got me to upgrade to a SSD in the first place.

Managed to get SP1 to download + install anyway. Now have IE11 plus VPN funtioning.

Avast Browser still opens as a blank white window.

Can ‘safe banking mode’ be downloaded as a standalone unit please?

Thanks.

No, it’s part of ASB.

Can anyone identify the missing W7 updates which might be preventing ASB from working properly please?

Bump.

Windows just installed 173 W7 updates & the Secure Browser has come to life.

Amazing what happens when you update your OS.

Thanks,

This is a blank C drive of course with literally years of MSW updates to be downloaded onto it - took a while to kickstart the updates, but it looks good so far, fingers crossed

Had no idea other programs were so reliant on the updates, but there we go.
