VPS Icon in Tray Disappeared

I am using the trial version of Avast 4.8 Pro and I noticed that there were 2 icons for Avast in the bottom lower tool bar near the time, with one being the VPS icon. One of the options in the VPS icon (doing this from memory…so forgive me) is do you want to merge with the Avast interface, so I clicked on that. The VPS icon suddenly disappeared, but the VPS information did not reappear in the other icon (the blue ball with the “a” on it, or the Enhanced Interface or Simple Interface that you can change the skins.

My question is how do I get my other blue ball back with the “i” on it? I’m a girl, but I want my balls back because I don’t know how I can update my VPS without having both of them. Thank you for your help.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Personally I’m happy with my one ball, but if you want two, that’s OK.

I think the other icon you are referring to is the VRDB icon. It’s short for Virus Recovery DataBase, (which is an old technology that won’t be in Avast 5.)

I’d happily leave them merged. It will, by default, process when the computer is not being used.
It has nothing to do with updating the virus database.

You can do that by right clicking the “a” ball, select “updating” and “iAVS update”. This will also update automatically at preset periods, when an update is available.

So basically, don’t worry, it’s fine the way it is, and you don’t have to go for the two balls option.

This may sound weird, but when I had the other ball and I was able to click on it, I was able to download these really long files vs. something that only took a few seconds that I know was just a standard update. I just want to make sure I’m getting all the updates.

Oh…wait a minute. I just played around with the “a” ball and found a pop-up menu and I was able to get the other ball back. I know you mentioned that it will disappear with Avast 5 when the PC is not being used but my PC is always being used when I’m on it. I’m still learning this version. I’m so glad you’re up early or a night person to help me out! :-* Thanks so much.

So all is OK, now?
Please ask if there is any more assistance needed, only too happy to oblige.

I’m on the other side of the Big ball, here, so at the time of posting this, it’s dusk. ;D

Yes, all is well now. Thank you very much for all your help. We just had a time change here (something we do twice a year) so I didn’t realize that it was dusk for you and here I am a night owl missing a Ball…guess I wasn’t thinking straight. But now I’m so happy all is working well again  Thanks so much.

Welcome.
