Dear Sir,
I am having the same problem continuously, I get the same error “this vps database requires latest program version” …but 4 days ago i have updated with this vps package and today when i formated my pc and re-install avast and try to update it gives this error.
what is the actual problem I cant figure out, the vps package is only 4 days old …cant we use older vps package so that avast should update offline and then we can use the internet to update virus definitions to the recent date …I want to manually update in offline mode because my internet bandwidth is limited .
Kindly elaborate all the terms and conditions which is associated with vps update . the program that am using is avast free 6.0.1203
4 days earlier i updated avast with the same vps package and suddenly i see that 4 days later after re-installation the same vps package starts to give this error “this vps database requires latest program version” WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ??? AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG ???
cant we use an old vps package so that we can update in offline mode to save our internet bandwidth ??? KINDLY HELP
P.S. Kindly dont ask me to update to the latest version of avast as am very much happy with version 6.0.1203
Try a repair. Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot.
I realize you asked to not ask you to update to v8.0.1488 but, with the latest version you have access
to the latest anti-virus technology. Streaming updates is just one of several.
OK , I repaired avast but even after doing a repair the vps package gives the same error message , I then uninstalled avast and then installed again and then tried vps update but still it gave the same error message … KINDLY GIVE SUGGESTIONS WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??
I again tried everything (I MEAN EVERYTHING)
Downloaded latest VPS package 8th may 2013 hoping it’ll work … uninstalled avast > cleaned remains of avast with Avast Removal Tool > Reboot > Fresh Install Avast > latest Vps > same error !!!
Nothing Working guys .
Kindly Help Me With This Situation .
Am Loosing My Temper Right Now .
There are issues in avast 6 that simply aren’t going to get resolved, at the very least you need to get avast 7, but preferably avast 8.
I don’t know where you are downloading the avast 6 version or the VPS update from ?
There are no old VPS database versions, only current ones, but there are two versions, one for avast 4.8 and another which is for avast 5 through avast 8.
Manual update of VPS:
avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 83.7 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
Your problem may well be that you are getting avast report the VPS is out of date, because the avast 6 installation file is so old. Incremental updates won’t cater for the gap between when that avast 6 installation file had its database included. Last release version 6 was 2011-11-28. So the database in that is almost 18 months old.
Guys am very very thnkful for ur precious replies …
I know there are issues in some version of avast 6 but I have been using this particular version 6.0.1203 for quiet a long time, never had this problem before, I always use to update it online , but now as my bandwidth is limited i tried for vps update method … same vps package and avast (version 6.0.1203) worked once but later on after I formated my pc it is not working … WHAT CAN BE THE POSSIBLE REASON ?? If it had worked once dat means it should work gain … We are missing sumthin guys… Help Help Help :-[ :-[ :-[
As DavidR said “Your problem may well be that you are getting avast report the VPS is out of date, because the avast 6 installation file is so old. As u can see that the same vps package is used to update version 5 as well that means that the same vps package contains the older database files for version 5 , Sooooo it should easily work for version 6.
Database of version 5 is older then version 6 and the same vps package works for version 5 as well that means the vps package contains update files from the release date of database of version 5 … It should easily work for version 6 thats for sure (it has actually worked for me once so theres no doubt it will not work … The problem is that we are missing out something and we need to figure that out …
as DavidR said to update to version 7. I TRIED THAT OUT . the vps update isnt working after installing version 7 as well . It gives the same old error message That “this vps database requires latest program version” … SO I reverted to the same old and tested version of mine (version 6.0.1203)
Guys give me as much suggestions as possible .
IS THERE A WAY TO SAVE THE DATABASE FILES OF ALREADY UPDATED AVAST AND AFTER RE-INSTALLATION USE THOSE FILES AGAIN TO UPDATE THE PROGRAM ???
The problem is the ‘incremental’ virus definitions update can’t handle the difference between what is in the database in the old installation file (be that avast5 or avast6) and what the current virus definitions database contains now.
There aren’t separate databases for avast 5 or 6 or 7, it is just the content of the database at that point in time.
So when there is a massive gap in what was in the database at that time and now, it simply recommends that you download the ‘full’ database at this point in time rather than attempt an incremental update.
The only suggestion is to do a manual download of the full database (a friend/library, etc. saved to USB) but that is quite large. But at least it will bring it up to date, after that a periodic incremental update should be possible.
Ok the vps update package that I am currently using is 83.8 mb dated 5.8.2013 …
OK for one moment I believe that “The problem is the ‘incremental’ virus definitions update can’t handle the difference between what is in the database in the old installation file (be that avast5 or avast6) and what the current virus definitions database contains now.”
Dude kindly go through previous posts I have clearly written that the same vps package and the same avast version 6.0.1203 has worked once couple of days ago … WHY NOT IT IS WORKING NOW ???
LEMME TELL U WHAT I BELIEVE …According to my knowledge the avast vps package contains databases from very beginning to the present day .
Same vps works for version 5 which has much older databases than version 6 … If it works for version 5 that means it will definitely work with version 6 because version 6 has been built after version 5 , and version 6 already contains newer databases as compared to version 5 …
Let me tell you that IT HAS WORKED ONCE …tell me WHY IT IS NOT WORKING AFTER RE_INSTALLATION ??? If somebody have answer to this question then its well n good …if not the I have one last question Like Avira has database fuse bundle updater tool & Kaspersky has Database Updater Tool … DOES AVAST HAS SOME UTILITY THAT CAN BE USED FOR OFFLINE DATABASE UPDATE AFTER THE RE-INSTALLATION ???
Have you checked to see if you have this file on your system?
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package. File path should be Program Files((86x) if Vista or higher 64-bit)>Common Files>Microsoft Shared>VC>msdia90.dll. Installed version should be 9.0.30729.6161.
If not, you need to install it for avast! to work properly. See attached .jpg below for file path on Win 7 Home Professional. You did not say what operating system you are running, but file locations should be similar. If search does not show anything, then you are missing this critical install; version you need will depend on your operating system.
Reason I say this is because you just formatted and installed a fresh, clean operating system from scratch few days ago. As such, you likely are missing other needed drivers as well.
I did not had Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package 9.0.30729.6161. BUT as ur reply seemed to be worth a try ,I downloaded the above mentioned driver and installed it but even then the vps update for avast did not work … So what i did is I installed Avast Pro 6.0 and did an online update of databases . Vps update did not work till now . Updated online & Everything OK . Thanks for the help guys . I appreciate your time and opinion. Thanks
