Hello,
I hope this isn’t too dumb a question, but here goes anyway; and yes, I’ve searched the forum.
I recently downloaded Avast, to replace Norton Internet Security 2006, on my son’s new computer. He has windows xp media center.
I was wondering why the vrdb icon isn’t in the system tray alongside the avast ball. I have Avast on my windows 98SE, and the avast ball as well as the “i” icon are visible.
I have already performed a thorough scan on my son’s computer, and everything is ok.
Yes, if that didn’t work, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
I think you are getting something mixed up as there is nothing to download a VRDB generator. There is RejZoR’s AEC (avast External Control) tool but there is nothing in it that would do what you mention.
That may have been the restore icons option (can’t remember why it was removed), but that didn’t “download the vrdb generator” just restored the icons.
I’m happy to report that after “trying” the repair AGAIN, in the add/remove control panel; after a restart, I found the “i” hiding in my taskbar. Something told me to view the “hidden” icons, and there it was, so I generated it, and all is back to normal! I also set it to generated when computer is idle!!
So I didn’t have to do a uninstall after all.
Thanks for the feed back, because of this hidden icon issue you might want to merge the two icons that way you will always have access through the avast icon right click menu.
Now I can see the menu, since the merge.
Everything seems to be ok now, as far as the vrdb is concerned.
I did notice that when I right click a file on my desktop to be scanned by Avast; it seems to start, but gives no results. (This is on the Windows XP Media Center computer.)
Full system scans run correctly.
On my windows 98, after I right click a file to be scanned; the results pop up until I close.
I have the same version that I am running on the XP.
Any suggestions to that problem?
Again, Thanks for all the help!!
