VRGB generator

Hello

I am just checking on the VRGB generator, i know what it does, but does this work in the home version.

I am a bit confused about the sreen saver part, as you can not use this in the home version, and i do not use a sreen saver anyway
Should the setting be on " Generate VRGB when the computer is idle "

What you’ve suggested is the setting I have it on. It generates a new database every 21 days. Most reports on this forum indicate that, probably because it’s an old technology, useful when it was developed for file infectors, it is not that useful now.
The type of infection that affects the fairly small number of files it makes a copy of (or copies data concerning) just isn’t at all prevalent these days, and it will be dropped in version 5.

[font=Segoe Ui]It is a feature set for repairing files which had been infected. Though, as time passes, the technology is no longer capable of catching up with the latest threats so, it will dropped on avast! 5.

[font=Segoe Ui]No, VRDB generation is available in both Home and Professional version of avast 4.

[font=Segoe Ui]Since you are not using any screensaver, that would do. But as mentioned before, it could not keep up with latest threats so you may also disable it since the on-access scanner can actually block most of threats.

PS: It’s VRDB.

ARR, i am glad i asked about this now Tarq57, thanks for your advice

Thankyou also .:L’ arc:. yes i did try it on this setting, so really i could disable it, or just leave it as it is

I would say it could be disabled, as mine has for some time now.

Times have changed since this was introduced and malware, namely file infecter viruses has become more complex, actually encrypting or placing the infection in different parts of a file and even over multiple files, so it is much more difficult to repair as the repair could corrupt the original file.

If you decide you want to keep the VRDB active (till avast 5 comes out, of course), I found it useful to “disable” it (this only deactivates the automatic periodic regenerating, not the ability to manually regenerate) to cover cases where the 3-week timing (which is down to the minute, by the way) wasn’t convenient, then “generate now” later (or even earlier, sometimes) when convenient.

As David (and I think others too) suggested, many of us haven’t bothered refreshing it in quite a while (several months, in my case) simply because it’s no longer anywhere as useful as it used to be.
