I recently switched from AVG to Avast Free Edition. I have been happy with everything so far, except my internet seems a little slow. I am on Comcast High Speed Internet. When I turn the Web Shield off my internet seems to be a lot more fast. So, the question is, I am wondering if I should disable the web shield? I mean I can live with my speed, but would like it to be the fastest it can.
Short answer no don’t disable it, I see no noticeable change and I’m on dial-up and many others on broadband generally report the same no issues.
You talk of it ‘seems’ faster when the web shield is disabled, how are you judging this ?
What is your firewall ?
I assume you have uninstalled AVG AV ?
What other security programs do you have installed ?
Also on Comcast here too and I see no noticeable slow down with Webshield active.
There was a an issue noticed with a firewall not too long ago - which firewall are you using?
I am using no other security software, just behind the built in Windows Firewall.
Please also answer DavidR’s question on removal of AVG.
Sorry, yes AVG is completely removed.
WebShield should take some resources… but not that many…
Can you post the speed with and without webshield?
I’ve tried speedtests with and without WebShield. Now I know that speed will vary so that no 2 tests will be the same, due to conditions outside my setup, but there seemed to be a slight advantage to having WebShield on! Only 3 tests each, but so little difference that I stopped worrying.
