Hi, i was just wondering if it’s possible to edit/remake the URL Blocking Blocked Page
Left click the “a” icon, click on webshield, customize button, url tab, edit as needed. But heed the warning you got before. How did this get in the blocker page?
Thanks for the quick reply but that’s not exactly what i meant, i’ll try to explain better in a moment, in answer to your question i got that bage by searching google for a word i’d previously filtered on the URL tab.
What i want to do is to be able to customize the page that replaces the filtered URL, the image i posted is, as you know, an image of the current URL Blocked page but i’d like to modify it, make it more outstanding so when others use the computer and receive this warning - they will take notice of it.
Again thanks for the fast reply. =]
Sorry I missunderstood. :-[ As far as I know you are stuck with the default page.
no problem and thanks for your help anyway, would be nice to see a little feature like that in Avast! but i doubt it’ll get put in; ahhh well, if no one pays attention to it - i’ll remove their internet access =D
Oh, one last question - does Avast! log when a URL has been blocked? if so - how do i access this log? thanks.
Cal.
edit this: “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ENGLISH\HtmlData\Blocked.htm”
I’m not completely sure, but I’m somehow afraid that avast! setup notices the change soon, and overwrites the file back with the original version.
Does this mean that every language .html page is returned back to the original version I suppose…
thanks for all your help people =] is there anywhere i can get a predefined filter or will i have to manually add in all the words?
You have to manually add what you want for WebShield blocking.
But, remember, WebShield is not a Internet Content filter nor a firewall.
If you want, search for specific applications that could do that.
K9 is a very good Internet filter.
For firewall, well, Comodo and PCTools are the ones now.
In response to one of the questions the op had, I added penthouse.com to the webshield to see if the attempt to go to that site was looged. Couldn’t find it logged in the log viewer and didn’t see anyplace in the ini file to turn that type of logging on. Is there?
Another thing. With that address in the blocked list, I can still display the home page. Any thing I click on there is blocked. Shouldn’t the home page be blocked also?
Activate logging in WebShield:
- Edit \data\avast4.ini file
- Find the section [WebScanner]
- Add the line:
EnableLogging=1 - Restart Web Shield in XP (terminate and start again) or whole PC in case of Win98
- Browse (trying to access some webpages)
[quote author=oldman link=topic=30520.msg252601#msg252601 date=1190340657]
The log file are \data\log\ashwebsv.log and ashwebsv.ws.
They would be accessible when WebShield is terminated again.
After that, disable the logging to avoid a big log file.
Are you sure you’ve entered the correct url?
http://www… etc./*
But that will log all wedshield activity won’t it? Is there a way to log just when an atempt to a blocked url is made.
Yes I’m sure the the url is correct. It will block any atempt to access anything on that page, but the home page can be accessed.
http://www. penthouse .com/ t1/?nats =MzozOjE,0,0,0,0
that’s the home page without the spaces of course.
Yeah, you’re right. I don’t think there is such an option, but maybe an undocumented level could be there… Like Mail provider that the log level could be configurated from 0 to 20…
Okay I got to work. Seems like to block the home page, the www needed to added to the ur, while the pages could be blocked as in the image above. When I added the first url, I let avast add the http and * The second one I typed in with the www and *
Well if you come across a way of logging just the attempts, post it. Someone may want to know.
@Callum
I think I’d go with Tech on finding a specific filtering program. Unless you password protect the avast! settings, unchecking the enable url blocking check box will give 'em free rein.
Thanks, could you link me to some of these firewalls please?
