Just updated to Avast free 6.0.1091 from version 6.0.1000 via the GUI, after reboot I noticed the WebRep tab missing under Additional Protection. I didn’t install WebRep intially with version 6.0.1000 but I still had the tab for it in case I wanted to install it. Now it’s missing. Windows 7 Pro x64. Updated my XP machine the same way, via the GUI, and it has the WebRep tab even though I don’t have the plugin installed on that machine either. Something is always not working or missing whenever I update via the Avast GUI on my Windows 7 system. Let me guess, uninstall and reinstall fresh right? I just want the tab back I don’t want the plugin installed.
Edit: Went to to add/remove programs and clicked change and checked webrep, clicked next, it then asked me to reboot which I did. The tab showed up with the plugin installed, I just uninstalled it from FF and IE. The tab is back at least. Everything else seems to be working. Last time I changed something through add/remove Avast got messed up, we’ll see what happens.
It’s showing for me it’s under the “ADDITIONAL PROTECTION” tab then the subtab “WebRep” and they have added support for firefox 4.0! i think
try “Update Components” from the Avast! install from add and remove programs or “repair”
I got it going as I mentioned in my original edited post. Thinking back I thought I had the WebRep tab there(but the plugins weren’t installed) even though I didn’t install it with version 6.0.1000. Maybe I didn’t, now I do, lol.
In 6.0.1000, when WebRep was not installed (as a package in the installer), the WebRep page would still show in the program UI.
In 6.0.1091, this is “fixed” so that if WebRep is not installed, the UI page is gone as well.
lol. Oh well, so I broke what was fixed. No biggie, I can always uninstall it through the “change program” option in add/remove programs. But I might enable WebRep eventually so it’s not hurting anything having the tab there so if i choose to install the plugin I can.
