Webshield blocking sites

Is anyone else having problems with the Webshield portion of Avast 4.8 Home Edition?

When I installed it fresh, Internet browsing stops working. Can ping google.com.au and get replies etc, so it’s definitely nothing wrong with the Internet connection.

Once you stop the Webshield service, all works fine.

Is this by design, or a fault, any ideas?

I think I read on another forum that someone set their proxy to 127.0.0.1:8080 and it worked, but I haven’t confirmed this yet as I uninstalled it.

Any ideas? Many thanks!

I use Firefox browser, not IE, but I have had no troubles.
The google home page pops up just fine.
Can you be more specific? Is the browser not responding at all? Or is is just certain sites that are blocked?
Try to list out a few more specifics, and maybe one of the real pro’s can help you out.

Have a look at your Firewall settings, check that ashWebSv.exe has correct access

This is not correct. avast uses another port and only with Windows 9x\Me. For 2k\XP\Vista it’s automatic and transparent.
