Hehe…I guess I’m an inquisitive person, so this can’t be helped ^^
For me, the only antivirus that I ever had was avast!..I think it was avast 3 or 4…can’t remember very well.
Nortons can detect the virus, but never really cleans it out. Invasive on the OS also.
Avg is ok, although still allowed trojans that it couldn’t get rid of.
Avast is the best that I have found so far. It actually gets rid of 99% of viruses that it finds, and they don’t come back. It also works well with windows shield. I have both at the same time. I have found only one virus it couldn’t repair, that I had to delete the file.
Yes, that’s true - AND you have to PAY for it!
Avast rocks.
I’ve used Norton, McAfee and AVG.
I never used Avira except for tests.
Never got infected or had any other problems using Norton for 10 years, then I decided to see how well I could do for free. I tried Comodo for a year and also didn’t get infected but grew disenchanted with their approach and methodology so switched to Avast almost 14 months ago and have been very pleased. I had tried Avast 4 before Comodo but hated the GUI so abandoned it.
It was Norton. Something dramatic happened, I can’t remember what exactly, and I switched to avast! in 2004 (joined the forums in 2005), and never looked back.
My Pc came preinstalled with Mcafee so I used that for a couple of weeks and then realized Mcafee is all bullshit and advertising gimmick but no protection. Then I found avast! and used it ever since.
Other: AVG, CA before that. But Avast for many years now, and until Avast no longer updates the virus database for v. 4.8 on Win98.
norman, avg, avira a short period, and comodo.
Used a few since 1997. Mainstay was Norton for several years, beginning with Win98SE.
Norton slowed the system down quite a bit and could be shut down by a malicious file when on the Internet.
Went with CA for a couple, not as good, but then, I got smart, and used Norton Ghost for full disk imaging, so it was much less of a hassle to restore my system to a known clean state before it got infected.
Tried Avast! 4.0 for a short time, was not impressed as it seemed buggy on Win98SE and did not care for the GUI.
First real Avast! was version 5.0, shortly after major upgrade from 4.8. Now used on XP SP3 Home on a Dell 4600i 2.8 P4 2GB RAM along with Secunia PSI v. 2.0.0.3003. There have been about five or six incidents when the Web module intercepted a malicious web page and stopped it cold; no infection.
Currently using Avast! 4.8 on Win98SE dual-boot system.
Have to say Avast! 6.0 is the best so far of all tried; very little impact on system resources. System boot time and performance is almost as quick with the a/v as without.

Yes, I do agree that Avast 6 is the best one so far. Avast 4, when blocking a malicious site, made this scary, siren-like noise that literally SCARED THE SH** OUT OF ME (excuse the langauge.) But it was quite good though.
I love the look on Avast 6 as well.
