Hey! I’m curious but what free firewall and what version of the firewall does everyone use along with Avast free AV?
Search the forum or look at our sigs.
I am using the Windows Firewall right now.
But i can recommend to use comodo Firewall alongside with Avast free.
Steven,
What version of Comodo would you recommend? Would you recommend version 5.12? Or would you recommend version 6x?
I would recommend to use the newest version. But when you are encountering errors you can go
back to version 5.12.

Thank you!
EDIT: should I install avast or comodo be installed first?
Thats not so important but i would install Avast first and then Comodo cause Comodo Firewall could interfear
with the Avast Installation.
Thank you so much! Thank you very much!
No problem.
I use Comodo Firewall v5.12 w/D+

May someone please provide some info to me between these three firewalls and give me an idea which is a stronger firewall and has stronger HIPS built in, and stronger overall? Also please provide me in order from stronger to worse?

Choose the custom install for Comodo and disable GeekBuddy, Comodo Dragon.
There are reviews on Youtube.
I’m not sure what you are trying to say, and that doesn’t answer all of my questions in my last reply. I’m sorry.
That’s is a very difficult question to answer at best. Since what works best for one is not necessarily the best for someone else.
I have tried OA Free, Private Firewall and Comodo Firewall and found CFW v5.12 works the best for me. Then there are still others who
prefer Outpost Firewall.
May I suggest you do some research before deciding. A Google search of “free firewall reviews” may give you some direction.
The link I gave you previously will also help http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-firewall.htm
I like CFW 5.12. I don’t like v6x. Do you run both the Firewall and D+ both in safe mode?
Yes! Follow these instructions to letter http://www.knightwithapc.com/2011/11/download-comodo-firewall/
http://www.filehippo.com/download_comodo/13662/
Untick everything on the first screen>click “custom install”>tick only the “firewall” box>click “back”>click “install”>reboot.
The CFW GUI is extremely easy to navigate. I have all ports stealthed. 8)
I was going to follow this guide except I don’t use my computer for limited. I only use and have one account. http://forums.comodo.com/guides-cis/using-comodo-internet-security-as-an-antiexecutable-t60303.0.html
I am the only one using my laptop and I feel very protected with avast and CFW w/D+.
To each their own.
Many people are not aware that they already may have a hardware firewall which is much better than a software one.
Check your modem/router manual to see if it has a firewall or not.
If it has, login to the modem/router and make adjustments to the settings (if needed/wanted)
If you have a hardware firewall, there is no need to have a software one as well.
As I have said several times before on this webboard:
See the firewall as a doorman.
Put him outside and in front of the door and he will not let unwanted people in. (hardware firewall)
Put him inside and the unwated people are already in before he sees them. (software firewall)
I used Windows Firewall and my Routers Firewall.
