what has 4.6.731 done to my PC!!?!?!?!

im sorry to say this, but nothing has gone right on my PC ever since i updated to the above version pro edition… i keep getting this blue screen with a system error that requires the PC to reboot…it says Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

dont know what that means but i didnt install anything else for a while so it can only be avast’s fault. also, the new version doesnt even allow me to update my virus database and just gives me an unexplaind error…

i hope someone knows something about this problem?

cheers.

shroomly.

What is the exact error you get?
Do you use any firewall? If yes, did you check that avast! processes are allowed Internet access?

Any additional info (such as filename) on the bluescreen? Check the folder Windows\Minidump - there should be minidumps corresponding to the crashes there… right?

dont really know what minidumps are… what am i meant to do with them?

the message was like is said DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL…

i dont know what the full msg was, didnt know that makes such a big difference…i have no doubt that avast is causing this. no im not using a firewall. we’re students sharing internet in thehouse via a router, but no personal firewall…

i think im going to try to install the older version again, because according to many people this new version is nothing but troubles…

cheers for the help and if you guys can fix this you’re a legend!!!

PS. i also get this typical system has experienced an error from windows when i start my computer (with the option to send error to microsoft or not send)…

thank you.

shroomly.

Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
Better if you can compress (zip) them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.
Send an email to vlk (at) avast.com

My bet would be as usual soundcard/soundcard drivers…

My bet is with RejZor or, at least, CD-RW tools (like Nero, etc.) and drivers.

ur guessin wrong guys. my soundcard is fine, my cdrw is fine. i havent touched both in over a year, and there is nothing else that could be causing this but avast, or some virus/trojan/worm…

cheers though…

also, how do i find this guy’s email that im meant to send the dump files?!?!?

Send an email to vlk (at) avast.com
Lose the spaces in the email address above and change (at) to @. I'm sure Igor won't mind you sending it to Vlk, but you may want to include a link to this thread in the body of the email.

cheers… sent it now

I CANT GIVE U GUYS DETAILS OF THE BSOD BECAUES IT HAPPENS SO RANDOMLY, AND UNTIL NOW IT WOULD BE A SPLITSECOND, MANAGED TO MAKE THE BLUE SCREEN STAY, BUT THE LAST TIME IT HAPPND I ONLY COPIED WHAT I’VE GIVEN U ALREADY…I UNINSTALLED AVAST 731 N SO FAR IT HASNT REBOOTD MY COMPUTER…SO IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN ILL SEND U THE REST OF THE BSOD…

Please, avoid caps as you’re not yealing… it’s the protocol of the forum

If you disable the Automatic Restart, you’ll have time to copy the BSOD details.

Using Registry Editor:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl
DWORD = AutoReboot
0 = Auto Restart Disabled
1 = Auto Restart Enabled

Not using Registry Editor:
System Properties > Advanced > [Startup and Recovery]Settings
Remove the checkmark from “Automatically Restart” in the System Failure section.

Sometimes an error occurs on your machine and you are immediately hit by a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death). The only problem is the screen flashes by so quickly you rarely get to see what may have caused the error in the first place. To the layman the information on the screen may as well be in a foreign language but, in a number of cases, to a technician the all important ‘gobbledegook’ can mean the difference between locating your problem or complete disaster. By disabling the automatically restart on system failure feature, you are able to read what messages appear on the blue screen and can, if necessary, pass the information on to your technical support person.

  1. Click Start Button
  2. On the Start Menu click Control Panel
  3. When the Control Panel window opens click on the System icon
  4. The system properties window opens
  5. Click the Advanced tab
  6. In the Advanced tab window locate the Start and Recovery section and press the Settings button
  7. When the settings window opens look for the System failure section
  8. Remove the check mark from the Automatically Restart option
  9. Click OK to Exit

yes mate i’ve done that…but i still dont understand how to fix this problem…

cheers for the help.

got the rest of the BSOD msg…

***STOP 0X000000D1 (0XE167DDEC, 0X000000FF, 0X00000000, 0XFF2AFF06)

HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE TO ANY OF YOU, CAUSE IT DOESNT TO ME, AND THIS PROBLEM IS STARTING TO GET ON MY NERVES, BECAUSE I HAVE A VERY URGENT PROJECT TO HAND IN AND I NEED MY COMPUTER FOR IT, AND THIS PROBLEM IS MAKIN IT VERY HARD TO USE…

thanx again for help.

shroomly.

So you have already reinstalled avast?
I mean uninstalled AND reinstalled from scratch?

yes i was impatient…sorry… reinstalled to version 6.691 but the problem is still happening…and this time i got blue screen about 3 times last night which is the most often ive had it so far…

is there ANYTYHING i can do to fix this?!?!

Will this help?
Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Stop 0x000000D1
“STOP 0x000000D1 IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Kbdclass.sys” Error Message When You Try to Shut Down the Computer

send us the minidump, probably we can read some info from that. If you’ll not send us this file or provide the information by other means we can not help you. Believe me.

ive already sent them all to vlk n recieved no reply… could service pack 2 possibly fix this problem?? i only have service pack 1… any chance this is happening from a virus???

You might to want to look at this article at the MS website.

Fits the error you have. Do you have a fancy Logitech mouse/keyboard with their add-on software? They have decent hardware but their extra features control software is horrible.
