What is a Forum?

As per Igor’s request, this isn’t meant to continue a closed Thread however,
by definition, a Forum is described as:

  1. A public meeting or assembly for open discussion
  2. An online discussion group, where participants with common interests can exchange open messages.
  3. A feature of online services and bulletin boards that allows subscribers to post messages for others to read,
and to reply to messages posted by other users.
  4. A forum is an online notice board where users can post questions or post answers or comments to those questions.
  5. A forum in WebCT is a group. This group can be either closed (private) or open (public). Forums are often used for peer editing groups,
for survey questions, or for group or class projects. Collaborative work may be done in a forum, sending and receiving messages
and sharing work focused on a common topic. Students may even use the Whiteboard feature of WebCT,
which allows a group of students to write and draw on the same documented in an asynchronous manner.

Since I enjoy free speech, I could never understand the closing of either a thread or a board unless things within within that section had
gotten totally out of hand.

This is strictly my personal opinion but it’s something I needed to get off my chest.

Having said that, I now don’t care if this thing gets locked and/or deleted.

“free speech” is open ended and limited to borders, no pun intended. For example, America’s first amendment does not include Internet message board forums unless it is the government closing threads and topics in the form of retribution. In fact, closing a thread or topic would in itself be a form of freedom of expression. ??? It’s a two way street.

Culpeper,

In fact, closing a thread or topic would in itself be a form of freedom of expression.
I fully agree but it sure makes any kind of rebuttal extremely difficult.... ;D ;D

Hi Bob,

This is whwere it all stemmed from, and as you see, it is square.
So how can you get round, Bob? This is just a subject for the sake of the subject. The forum of fora was in Rome.

Yes, it does. Back in my earlier days on the board I used to get into a lot of trouble. Caused a few threads to be closed, I dare say. I can’t even remember what it was all about to tell you the truth. For the most part, the group gets along fairly well. Almost all forums have problems. Personalities before principles. I’m a kinder gentler pirate these days.

In this situation, it took 3 to tango.
A simple read of this thread does all the finger pointing.
oops, guess not any more… ;D

Moderators … Thanks goes to you from the rest of us! 8)
