What Is An avast! User To Do For Security If They Want to Try Windows 8 DP?

I downloaded and originally installed W8 DP on my x32 Netbook on Sept 15th. It comes with Windows Defender which will be upgraded to a full Antimalware package in W8 RTM. In the meantime I wanted to upgrade the security of W8 DP so I attempted to install AIS. The installation attempt failed, crashed the system and corrupted the W8 kernal so I had to do a re-install. After re-installing I attempted to install Microsoft Security Essentials. It worked.

However I wanted to add some more security to that so I tested a bunch of security programs to see if they would work with W8 DP.

Here are the results of those tests.

Anti-Virus

Didn’t load and run

 1. AIS crashed system corrupted kernal required W8 DP reinstall
 2. Housecall Launcher
 3. Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool

Loads and Runs

 1. MSE real-time
 2. McAfee Stinger On-Demand
 3. ESET On-line Scanner On-Demand
 4. Bit-Defender 100 On-Demand

Anti-Spyware

Loads and Runs

 1. SAS real-time
 2. Windows Defender real-time
 3. Malwarebytes On Demand -Didn’t test real-time
 4. IMF - Scans work - real-time runs but unknown at this time if it is working properly

At this time I do not plan on testing more security software with W8 DP. When AIS 7.x beta is released and approved for use with W8 Beta I will replace MSE with AIS

I can’t remember where on the forums I read it but, avast is working on a solution. Windows 8 is not even released yet and I can’t comprehend why keep up with “betas” since the beta can and will change without notice. ???

Its not Avast! that needs to work on anything. Windows 8 blocks the install, and by all accounts this wont be lifted till the actual beta is released (its not even a beta yet, its dev)

You are correct. I did a quick search. If I am not mistaken wasn’t Win7 in beta for about nine months?

Exact memory fails me there, but it was something around that number.
