when i installed home edition of avast 4 it had the bat! as one of the custom choices in the installation and i selected it just in case i might need it later. what is it?
An E-Mail program. Not a bad one either.

that’s just a plug-in for the bat email client as mentioned by brian… 
however if you are not using the bat mail client…then probably you can consider removing it… 
to remove it…go to…add/remove programs…select avast…and change…
