Avast Home Edition detected a number of viruses and I sent them to the Virus Chest as recommended. They are various Win 32 viruses. I use Windows XP. The infected files were in Windows\system32 and System Volume Information_restore… My computer seems to run OK with the files in the chest.
Should I just leave these files in the chest, delete them, or do something else with them? The chest doesn’t seem to have the option to repair them. I just started using Avast and my computer expertise is minimal.
Thanks,
Jack
Leave them in the chest (they can’t do any harm there) for a week or two so as to ensure that there are no harmful effects from them having been moved there (incorrect detection, etc.). This gives you time to investigate if at all possible (google search, ask here, etc.) to confirm.
Thanks, Tech. If There are no problems after a few weeks should I still leave them in the chest indefinitely?
You choose. If you delete, you’ll recover disk space, but, generally, these files are quite small to worry that much. But, of course, you can delete them.
