What's going on with AVAST

Since upgrade to Avast 2014 everything really goes crazy.

  • Emule will only connect with Low ID.
  • Outlook 2003 Avast Anti Spam toolbar won’t show up whatever I try. Even after correcting registry settings.
  • IE 10 will take ages to load a page or simply crash if Avast Online Security toolbar is activated.

And this is only what I found for the time being since the upgrade a couple of days ago.

I am a former computer consultant whith a solid knowledge how to go around specific problems by tweaking registry, firewalls and various configs but this is beyond understanding.

Strangely enough, I have another Pc identical to this one running the older version of Avast 8.0.1488 and none of these problems arise.

Wherever you try to go in Google to find an answer to these problems, the only thing that shows is a lot of advertising around the wonderful new Avast 2014 and the possibilty to download it.
But not a single wise comment how to solve the problems that seem to pile up to some crazy extents.
I think I will have to cancel the product because this is really getting me REALLY MAD !!!

Wake up guys if you don’t want to loose all of your customers…

Hi, I’m having a similar problem with the latest version. I use IE9 with Win 7x64. When I look at add-on management in IE9, navigation times of more than 10 seconds are listed when the Online Security add-on is enabled! And I can be left with a blank screen and have to close IE9, or the browser can even freeze so I have to log off using ctrl/alt/del. When the add-on is disabled, loading and navigation is quick. I don’t have any problems with my nVidia GTX 650 graphics card with universally praised 314.22 drivers under any other circumstances. I have a powerful i7 cpu and 16gb RAM. Only computer problem is avast free 2014 wtih Online Security enabled :-\ - Any others reading here have problems with the add-on? What to avast have to say? I have uninstalled using the special avast tool, cleaned up and reinstalled, but lag remains - Phil

I have similar problems with IE 10 (not that I use it often), in fact it often freezes with the Online Security add-on enabled. Without the add-on it runs sweetly.

Until it’s fixed by Avast! Disable the avast! Online Security Module in IE and your problem should be gone.

I upgraded to avast! 9.0.1500 on October 21. I do not recall upgrading since then but see I am now running 9.0.2006. This morning IE10 took 90 seconds to load pages. I would often get ‘The webpage is not responding’, forcing an IE restart. I can confirm that disabling the avast! Online Security add-on made the problem go away. I have opened ticket #DZD-803-34187 with avast!.

T believe that the 9.0.1500 (or 8.0.1500) version number is a bit of an interim version whilst it checks for compatibility, if that passes then it completes the upgrade to 9.0.2006.

I opened a ticket with avast! on the 27th. I received a response that there was a problem with the virus database that has been corrected in the current version (131031-0). I have re-enabled the avast! plugin. So far, so good. It was only one of the issues described in the original post.
