What's going on with the forum?

Thanks, that kind of coincides with what I was experiencing, though there where other times it was very slow.

Quality of forum browsing is decreasing on my side… Not only ‘unavailable’ but also ‘slow’ other times.

May be slower ocassionally when there is iavs/web update going to be pushed on the server. The only real “measurement” is this: “Page created in 0.198 seconds with 11 queries.”

I can’t believe on that ‘measure’… For sure it does not take ‘only’ less than a second to be rendered in my browser… it takes seconds…

But this measures actual speed of the page generation which may be affected by the server overload. The rest is the speed of network transfer, which is beyond our power.

What about WebShield delays?

I though the forum was on a server isolated from any avast updates ?

Today also for me the loading has/is slow at times.

As you say, "The only real “measurement” is this: “Page created in 0.198 seconds with 11 queries.”
For me for this page it was Page created in 143.879 seconds with 23 queries, so I would say that was slow, see image.

AFAIK this is correct, however content of website && content of updates repository is synchronized even if server has very low cost in our distribution system.

There was VPS/website update some 20 minutes ago.

Not if avast! is the server av.

The latest server synchronization was T-43 mins to T-38 mins. In this very moment the response may be slower.

It most certainly is slow, just collected a few more.

Having a dial-up connection is slow at the best of times, but when there are additional factors is is painful. The one thing I have noticed that even when the Page created in x seconds with x queries is displayed at the bottom of the page there is no Done in the status bar and the page is still spinning it wheels trying to load. Creation is a darn sight different to loaded, as all those queries have to be loaded I quess.

How are you doing that? I’m getting constantly times like Page created in 0.081 seconds with 11 queries, while I’m replying here… Ofcourse, there are pages which are much more time consuming…

(I’m home, on 1mbps wifi, 5500 miles away from server)

I can’t believe you’re defending a system that takes 143 seconds for create a page :o :o
Something should be done… isolate forum form the website, etc.

As I normally do (see below), and have been doing so for for some considerable time, so using the same practice it is easy to see when it is much slower than normal.

First I click the “Show new replies to your posts” then I click on 4-5 of them and open the first and read the reply, I respond to the ones that require a response and post, then move on the the next one. I go back to the list select another batch and repeat the process until done.

Then I click the “Show unread posts since last visit” and I look for those with no reply and select 4-5 of them to read and respond if I have a suggestion, etc. I work through in the same way as for unread replies above.

The page creation that you say is the only guide is neither effected by distance or connection method.

And ‘normal’ reading the forum? Ie. index, general topics, this thread, replying here… Are you really getting such high times? Because I’m getting under 0.1, and the server is right now free of any load.

I checked the graphs about minute before. Except for the website synchronization peak, there is nothing extraordinary.

Hello people !

Page created in 0.081 seconds with 14 queries.

No problems on this end. Forum loads great.

Hi Miha,

I have got 0.079 with 14 queries. That is even better, but then I am on a Czech built computer.

polonus

I’m doing nothing different than I normally do and frequently I get Page created in tents of seconds rather than tens of seconds, this one is quick but that is only for the creation of the page framework and loading from the local server (attachments, buttons, images, etc.) would have to be loaded.

Yes there will be external server loading some avatars, etc. which will add to the over all page load, as will having a dial-up connection and being more than 5000 miles from the forum server. But if I’m doing nothing different and I’m sitting in the same chair on the same computer, with the same dial-up (spit) I can tell when things are slow.

I don’t need a stop watch or to look at the page creation time, I can just watch the little guy running round the page with a paintbrush, painting the page and watch it dry ;D

Home built computer on VDSL, check attachment. ;D

No problems here… even faster… Safari, Mac OS X Tiger at work…
