When I right-click the system tray icon the mouse cursor moves by itself.

After a Sality infection, my mouse cursor moves itself to the “southeast” when I click Avast’s system tray icon (only Avast’s, the other ones are ok).

Even after reinstalling Windows 10 (and cleaning both my system SSD and data drive in the process), it doesn’t go back to the normal behavior.

Is this a possible Sality-related problem? What else can I try? I’m out of ideas. My pc is an MSI laptop. The problem with that is that it might indicate the Sality infection is still acting, even though I’ve used other anti Malware tools such as Malwarebytes and Kapersky SalityKiller tool.

Edit: The same behavior repeats itself on another laptop. Basically, when I right-click the Avast icon, the cursor moves “southeast”. It would be great if someone with the latest version of Avast could confirm that… Maybe it’s just a simple application bug.

Doesn’t do that for me.
What avast are you running, free or premium, and what version of avast?
Any other security software installed?
Which software did you use before avast?

@filiposovieira. On latest Avast free v20.9.2437 (build 20.9.5758.609).
When I left click tray icon, mouse pointer stays in place.
When I right click tray icon, menu appears and mouse pointer dissapears “southeast” below the menu.
So depends on whether you are describing left or right mouse click.
Have you tried running full MBAM scan on your machine for second opinion.

So, the same thing happens to you? Right-click on system tray icon makes the cursor move to the southeast?

I’ve tried Malwaresbytes scan too, it seems the infection is gone.

I’m running the latest version, can’t confirm exctly now.

It’s the free version, what about yours?

Malwarebytes is installed too.

Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/

Is that necessary even if I don’t keep Malwarebytes all the time?

Exclusions needed if Malwarebytes is allowed to run in the background.

I have the same issue, it also persists after a clean OS install. Sality remover from avg returns clean results just like all the scans I ever did (quick deep and preboot + second opinion scans) Anybody has the same issue? Is this a bug?

Update to the latest version (20.10.2442): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=243196.0

it’s probably a bug or intended feature, I found out that the issue persists on multiple computers.

I manage many computers and have never seen that behavior. What makes you think it’s an intended feature?

Not seeing it either, on my win10 system.

EDIT: Just how far is it moving and where ?
There is a very small movement, in that when the popup window opens it pushes it down slightly.

it moves from the green area to the red area from my screenshot.

When you right click on the icon, it opens a menu.

moves about this much from the tray icon. If I move the tray icon the cursor snaps acording to the new position.

It’s supposed to move or re-position when you left click and drag the icon.
When you right click it opens a menu.

It appears this is because you have the task manager set on the Right (column).

Hello cursor issue should be fixed in version 21.1, thank you for reporting
