When is the public of Flock coming out?

Hello my forum friends,

As expected the lean, mean Flock browser has gone public.
Here is the place to go:
http://www.flock.com/flockstars/flock-is-public-current-version-is-049/

Congrats to the people that believed in it that long, and the user of the first hour Neal. I hope this browser has a nice future. But now we have version 4.0.11 and still the official launch is not there. Is it to be continued? Who knows more?

polonus

Hi Polonus!
Your Flock’s link make me really happy.
C’est une très bonne adresse to learn an enjoy quality pictures (I know what I mean ;))
Thanks for sharing it 8)

…and faster than FF…am I wrong?

Hallo Niko,

C’est vrai. In my opinion it is my browser of choice, it is very stable & it is very user friendly, and the Flickr photo sharing is just your style. I tested it now since it appeared as a developers version, and so did Neal, and I think it is the best browser build on top of the FF 1.5 concept. I am now on version 11 developer night.build.
I have this inside, and that is making this browser shine: Adblock Plus, and Adblock Filterset G.Updater, NoScript, CookieCuller, Dr Web anti virus link checker 1.09, NukeAnything, Linkification, TranslatePage, Java Script Console, Dom Inspector, Web Developer, Chrome Edit.
But it is with browsers as with other things and preferences, you like it or it is not your style, but this Flock is a quality browser in this line.
Try it, and give me your feedback, as long as IE 7.0 is still in beta, and being tested (e,g, by ReVaN) I stay with Flock, yes it is faster than FF, but is making a particular sound on loading.

Umgh… call me blind but I couldn’t find a download link no matter what I tried… am I looking at the wrong place, or I simply haven’t noticed that (maybe somehow) this public update is actually just an announcement and not real update… ???

Flock’s OK but the link takes you around in circles wow I’m dizzy

The cryptic clue is in the ‘Download the code’ see image. It takes you to the developers page where you can download the latest 0.4.10.

But flock.com still reports it is developer preview.

And what is even more strange, I have no clue why I even searched for version 0.4.9 as Polonus mentioned in his initial post in this thread… I just checked mine and I already have 0.4.10 and I have to say that didn’t update my Flock for quite some time… I believe since I installed it… so it means I already had 0.4.10 installation file… then, what is going on with those numbers ? Going backward in California state maybe ? ;D

I prefer using Firefox with a Flock theme

[screenshot is from a Win2000 PC]

Haha, nice one Spyros… but it’s still Firefox, and it’s still considerably slower than Flock… especially when you use some larger themes.

When is the public of Flock coming out?

Well, I say … “Flock” the public!!!

(sorry, I couldn’t help myself) ;D 8)

Yes what’s up with 0.4.9 Polonus? Same as Sasha i too have 0.4.10 installed and i have it for some time now(don’t remember Flock ever updating since i have it installed)…

This is what i get when i check for updates in Flock:

BTW IE 7 really looks nice can’t wait for it to come out ;D

Hi my friend Miha,

I fear not that much actually what I see. I have the 0.4.11 nightly build, the other was the preview start version. Well the developing line is coming out with the version after developer’s pre-view somewhere planned for January, February. Silence all around, no news. They should come out now, and I cannot see why not. Lots of people became disappointed with FF after it changed into the 1.5 with the break-line there. 8) Why they had to port all the add-ons, plug-ins etc. , is be-puzzling. If people like their add-ons, then again they had to wait for developers to port it to be compatible again with 1.5. Compatibility problems cause a lot of end-users to leave a product. easy to be understood.
Flock did not have these problems, it started to build on the code of FF 1.5, user friendliness and stability were that good, that a first public version should be immanent, but it is not happening. I cannot speculate but I think they are waiting
for IE 7 to be launched and then they loose the momentum they sought, but will never get, but why? I’m no clairvoyant, and I cannot look behind browser policy scenes, but maybe I have missed something there? Why Mozilla has the mysterious ways? And where Flock is heading? I wish I knew.

polonus

polonus, Are you apart of the Flock team or do you know the developers?

Hi cyfer,

No cyfer, the developer team is in California, and all are good coders, that stands. I am just one of the users on the other site of the Atlantic, one of the first hour (like our forum member Neal), but I must admit through security in Flock, I have contacted some of the developing members there. Nice folks, but they have not asked me to join their Bandwaggon as yet.

Ported one of the add-ons and uploaded that (NukeAnything), and asked the developer Eugene Kuzin of Dr.Webs to port the hyperlink scanner for Flock, he is an aimable chap and he did so, and got an approval to launch it, thanks to this friendly people we have a much better in-browser security. There are some things of course in Flock, that needs adjusting (no software is bug free), but its scarcely halts on errors, it is lean, mean and good. It is my browser of this moment, we all wait for IE 7, and because IE6 is getting a long denture, use Flock (there is also a ported version to launch from your mem stick etc). I only hope that Flock is not abandoned, bought out or halted. It is worth the official launch. Oh and before I forget it you must install the Webshield in Flock, works beautifully, instructions on the Avast home page.

polonus

I tried Flock with Drop My Rights. It’s pretty fast even though Webshield isn’t scanning this browser.

Howdy Turkey,

What is your browser of choice?. I like every good browser, but it is like with styles, the one person is attracted to this, the other to that, there are outspoken Opera fans, and some like Bob like Avant, I like some pre-browser software like LinksExtractor and my adopted version of IntelliTamper to see what is on a site.
I went to an alternate browser because I had the old Win 98 SE unofficial service pack 2 on a machine, at work I have Win XP Pro SP 2 and IE 6, but alas with the occasional pop-up. I was attracted to Flock from the first time I stumbled upon the download.
But I heard from friend Miha, that the new IE 7 will be quite a browser, we will be surprised. Until then Flock is not that bad,

polonus

After playing around with Flock I can tell you that this browser ain’t bad, ain’t bad at all. Pretty fast, I might start using this instead of Firefox. The default theme ain’t bad at all. Got similiar components to Firefox 1.5 so shouldn’t be all out confuse over Flock, ain’t bad at all.

What is your browser of choice?.

Use to be firefox, but Flock ain’t bad at all, might reconsider this as my new default browser .

Some people may call me crazy but I’m still using IE 6, no add-ons.

Da!! the only link I didn’t check not being a coder has its draw backs
