where are my pw's saved - Avast Passwords

hi there,

so today I got my Avast Premier (am a bit excited yay) and I crawling trought all the settings till I found Avast Password tool. I set my master pw, I got avast pw chrome extension and now avast asking me if I want to delete all my passwords from my chrome browser… now, here is my question: where Avast Password stores all my passwords? (and I mean where exactly on my HDD and how is the file called ?)

pls avoid stupid mod questions like: why would you need to know that? etc.

if I agree to delete my pws from my browser I need to backup the “avast file” that keeps all my passwords so I could easily deploy it in case of avast reinstall or system crash.

They are stored in the cloud. Always available once signed into the PW Manager and your my.avast.com account.

well am pretty sure am not logged in into any avast cloud since it says: “The online content is unavailable
Please, check your internet connection and try again.” after I try to login via Avast Premier gui.

in the same time I use Avast Pasword and I do changes here and there with my pws

and when I login into my.avast.com with this “b2912447” acc there isnt any connection to my desktop Avast Premier (no device. I can add only new Avast Free device) and also there arent any paswords nor pw management

this brings out same question: in which file (encrypted or not) of Avast Premier the tool Avast Password stores all my passwords ?

its not “just” a cloud hence I am not logged in anywhere and also I can use Avast Passwords even when I am offline!

example: if I want to deploy all my blacklisted sites I just need to backup/restore “WebShield.ini”
now, which file keeps all my passwords?

The message about “online content is unavailable” has nothing to do with the storage of the passwords.
They are two different things.

If you want to see your device(s) on https://my.avast.com you need to login with the email that you used to register them.
It is not connected to a username on this webboard.

They are not stored in a file on your system as bob3160 already told you.

well we are not getting anywhere close (as I expected) so let me enlighten you…

I saved few login details into my chrome browser. then I went offline so I had no internet connection after which I installed Avast Premier and entered Avast Passwords tool. then Avast Password read trought my chrome browser and injected all those pws from there to Avast Premier gui. then avast asked me if I wana delete all my pws from my browser, when I agreed and pressed that yes button. now as I checked all my pws were deleted from my browser and I can see them now only from Avast gui. logics says that now only avast controls those pws. in other words Avast stored those passwords somewhere on my computer. at this point I am still offline without internet connection and since I installed Avast Premier I didnt go online.

guys (bob3160, Eddy) you still wana tell me its on some avast cloud (somewhere on the internet on some avast server) not being physically on my hard drive??

maybe its true what you say (hell I dont know) and the moment I go online Avast Premier will sync with my acc on https://my.avast.com and all my pws will be sent on that cloud but now… I’m btw still without internet and all of it is stored somewhere on my drive in some (I asume) encrypted/unreadable file (which only avast gui can read from) and I need to find and backup that file coz I wana reinstall whole windows (nope, I cant go online nor leave it just like it is)

Hi b2912447,

There is a folder in C:\Users<your username>\AppData\Local\Avast Software called APM (Avast Password Manager).
Be aware that we only support the synchronization group (cloud*) method for backing-up the passwords, and that while restoring the folder might work, it is not guaranteed.

*We don’t store the passwords in the cloud. We can synchronize them between your devices but we do not store them anywhere outside your own device/s. You can find more information about synchronizing the passwords in our FAQs https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB255

thank you moroni

I hope it will work out well for me

You’re welcome! Keep us posted, and don’t forget to use the same Master Password after the reinstall

I can’t find the folder in C:\Users<your username>\AppData\Local\Avast Software called APM (Avast Password Manager)

This is where I found it on my system,
C:\Users\bob31\AppData\Local\AVAST Software\Browser\User Data\Default\Bookmarks
(substitute for bob31 which is my username.)
