Are there any other download sites that I can get Avast Free from that isn’t cnet?
Is there a list of download website for avast or something or is cnet the only one?

It think at the end of the install routine avast is loading the avastemupdate module, which may require you to be online. But im not sure. In general this is the offline installer.

Personally I would never use an on-line installer, I prefer to download and save the standard off-line installation file. That way whilst you you retain control over what is happening between uninstalling the current version (if you were having any problems) and installing the new version.
Having saved the off-line installation file, you have a copy that should you need to can be reused.
Whilst you have to be on-line to register, there is no need to be on-line to install, once you install you can register from the avastUI.

It kept giving me an error until I connected to the internet. When it was installing, I saw it was saying something like: [15%] Downloading avast File
But whatever, it worked and after reinstalling from my last avast, it solved the problem I was having. I hope being online without an AV for 8 minutes didn’t do any harm though…

UI = User interface, you register though that once avast is installed.
