Where can I get the email scanner plugin.

Title says it all.

There is no separate email scanning plugin for avast! 4.8. A plugin-in module for Microsoft Outlook is included in the installer along with all the other email scanning components.

I have firefox and use Yahoo! mail. How do I scan my mail?

Yahoo scans your mail already.

The avast Web Shield scans all web pages for you and your Yahoo mail read on the web is delivered to you as web pages and is scanned by avast. If you request an attachment be downloaded from a Yahoo email then you have two choices:

If you use a download manager with Firefox can almost certainly tell your download manager to use avast to scan all downloaded files

  • or -

If you do not use a download manager in Firefox you will be relying on the Standard Shield of avast to scan the downloaded attachment when you access it to warn you of any problem with it.

how do I tell my download manager to scan with avast!

Add Avast’s exe file to its options, wherever the virus scanner option is

Not much help there as Firefox doesn’t have a “virus scanner” option.

Maybe this will help.

I am using Firefox 3.0.1 and am using Firefox default download manager.

Well in that case you cant. Scan it after you download it

I thought you meant a standalone downloader program (ie: free download manager / getright)

It looks like there’s addons tho

But not for Avast

Recent changes in firefox 3.0 were meant to include the automatic scanning of downloads by the AV installed on your system. This however has been less than perfect as there are many AVs that this firefox feature doesn’t work with and avast is just one of many.

If you use a third party download manager that allows you to enter the path so your AV can scan downloads, then avast will scan downloads.

Depending on the file type that is being downloaded, .exe (executable files) for example would be scanned by the standard shield when saved to your HDD.

You can set your download manager or Firefox plugin to use

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe
