Where is the file Avastlogs kept in Windows 7?

I was able to find it on an earlier computer, but I can’t find it here. It may help tracking down a problem I am having with Avast.
My guess is it may be in the \users morass.

Rather depends on your OS as the location is different for XP or (vista, win7 and win8) ?

It also depends on what log/s you are talking about ?

Well, the OS is Windows 7. I had seen a file generated in Windows XP which contained filenames of every file on the
computer, for all drives. I don’t know how it was generated. Maybe the current Avast version doesn’t make such a file,
as I was unable to find it.

For win7 the report files for scans would be located here C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report and there are other logs located here C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log

I don’t know where that was or what it might be, as scans shouldn’t list all files for all drives on your computer.

Scans only list those files that were detected, listing all files would generate a massive file. The only way to do that would be to alter the report settings for a scan to scan all OK files. But this would only ever be suggested as a possible debug to check that certain areas and files were actually scanned. After that confirmation we would recommend resetting the report settings back to the default.

So again we really need some help on what this log is, as there is none that I’m aware of that lists all the files.

The only log that I can think of that might do something close to what you are saying, but it doesn’t list every file in the system (though it may seem so), is the anti-rootkit scan aswAr1.txt on the log folder mentioned above.

Thanks for the info as to where the log files are kept. My mistake was looking for something called avastlog.txt.
I had probably renamed it. In the present computer there is a similar file called usntr.txt
I found the file in question on a backup of an older computer. I see it was dated 2007. It was just curiosity that got me
concerned about lists of filenames being accessible to anyone with access to the computer. I keep financial records in
encrypted drives using Truecrypt.
The file in question looks like this:

  • avast! Report
  • This file is generated automatically
  • Task ‘Simple user interface’ used

On closer examination it only contains filenames from my financial drive.
I am guessing I forced Avast to do that somehow.

I appreciate the time you spent in replying. I guess I know now where such log files are kept.

You’re welcome.

Normally to get a list of all files you would have to modify the Report settings (as I mentioned above) in the Scan settings that you wanted to run.
