If I need to format my PC keeping my gathered black and white lists information, what files I should back up in order to have this information saved? Does anyone help me? Windows 7 and Avast Internet Security 5.
What black and white lists do you actually mean? Exclusions in Avast?
I think he’s talking about where virus definitions and scan cache is stored (probably). Unless you’re on 56k dialup, i suggest you store avast! installer and update it through internet once you reinstall the whole system. After that perform a full system scan to rebuild the scan cache (whitelist). It’s more secure that way.
Though you can find avast! data in (Vista and Win7):
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5
C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software
C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5
if you want to try and re-use it yourself (but i don’t recommend doing that).
Sorry, I should tell that I’m talking about antispam´s white and black lists. I use MS Outlook and usually I send the unrequested messages to the black list.
I don’t use the anti-spam (useless for other clients than outlook), but I guess the data you’re looking for is there:
C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5\Spamconf
You can also backup this file >>> “antispamshield.ini”
located in C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5
edit: actually the spamconf folder should contain the updates (rules and live feeds), that you don’t need to backup at all obviously (you’ll get them back after the new install), while your white/black list may well be located in “antispamshield.ini”.
Took some looking but I found them. Very important if you have to reinstall AIS.
