Which One Is Better?

Hi Guy’s i’m planning to assemble my desktop computer… please help me to chose AMD athlon dual core or Intel core 2 duo…

thand in advance

Intel is better, AMD is cheaper.

Its a matter of preference, some like AMD more (like myself) and other like Intel more, I’m afraid its up to you to make the choice.

i have both-i have a AMD athlon 3200+ 64bit processor on my hp laptop and the Intel Core 2 Duo in my signature below…i guess it’s depends on what you want to use your computer for or the price version ??? ::slight_smile:

AMD make some good Chips, but they keep falling farther and farther behind intel. Thats not to say you cant build a good machine with AMD but Technology wise Intel is definitely ahead.

I mean Intel is going to start shipping their new 45W Quad Core Chips for High End laptops, and go to 6 Core Designs on their High End Xeon Chips

Why not write down which particular cpu models you had in mind ? Or better yet write down the whole configuration you’re planning to buy and how much you’re willing to spend on it and we’ll try to advise. Also we need to know what the machine will be used for(eg. gaming, video/sound editing etc.).

I would recommend an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 65nm which has 65W. The faster cpu’s are with 89W and 125W :o. You can also choose a slower AMD Athlon X2 BE-2400 (newer one) with 45W

ohyeah! thanks for the reply guy’s… i try to search in google and youtube theres a lot of comparison and i think amd is the winner cheaper and performance ;D intel is good but too expesive :stuck_out_tongue:

cheers!

@don67: You still haven’t told us what price range you’re looking at and what your machine will be used for …

Expensive? Looks to me like they price their chips around the same

From Newegg:

AMD:
X2 6400+ $169.99
X2 6000+ $159.99
X2 5600+ $139.99

Intel:
E6550 $169.99
E6300 $159.99
E4600 $139.99

Better difference in prices are shown at the link below. AMD cpu’s can certainly be found cheaper.

Prices at my computer shop:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 65nm - 91 €
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 65nm - 134 €

Why not go for a newer Intel Wolfdale 45nm model ? That is if he can afford it, he still hasn’t told us what price range he is looking at.

You can get an e8200 for a pretty good price, about the same price range as e6550/e6750.

Wolfdale Review

As you can see from the test the new Wolfdale e8200 easily beats anything from AMD in terms of performance, power consumption and OC potential, if you can get it for a good price you can’t loose with this one …

That’s the problem ::slight_smile:

oohh sorry  i will use this for home use only… my budget is not more than $1000

Buy some lower end Core 2 Duo CPU and a decent motherboard with overclocking capability. If you don’t overclock C2D you’re wasting like at least 40% of CPU’s actual value.

If you overclock you’re wasting the guarantee but it’s your decision

Why would you tell them you OCed the cpu, there is no way they could know that unless you “burned” the cpu of course …

overclocking is the cause cpu damage/ shortend the life spand of the processor :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s if you over do it with the voltage(why would you do that anyway), with these new intel babies you can get quite good overclocks even without raising the voltage(eg. my e6420 goes up to 2.9ghz on default voltage).
