Why all of a sudden all these forced popups !?

im starting to believe all these annoying popups are just a ploy to install the premium version as since the latest updates im getting popup after popup .. and tbh its beginning to piss me right off !!!
ive used avast free security since way back in 1997 and just the last couple of years all these popups started to appear .. saying your pc is vulnerable to attack , a new network has just joined… you need to update your passwords ect…well you get the gist !!!
there is nothing wrong with my pc and my passwords for all my sites are circulated each month as i make 4 passwords for each and every site i belong to .. so unless my keystrokes are being recorded by avast there is no way anyone can know which password ive changed to …
another really annoying thing is all these popups that asks you to either accept or dismiss whatever software is trying to connect to the internet … one after another … for instance i was playing GTA5 on my pc and halfway through playing the game a popup from yep you guessed it avast … pausing my game play and diverting me to my desktop putting my still active game into the background .. i kept on clicking dismiss and it kept on popping up until i pushed accept then my game play was restored until five mins later when another happened then another and another after ten or so happened i just had no choice but to disable all avast shields .then and only then i could continue playing my game without any really annoying popups!!! .. and after i ended my game play i re-enabled all shields back to normal ..this is not acceptable one bit .
avast for me has now become a right PITA !! like i said ive had and used avast for years and had never had this annoying problem… i must admit now i have been looking elsewhere for another decent free antivirus that does not force you into upgrading to premium version .. or bombard your system with countless annoying popups forcing you to …

i don’t really want to stop using avast but im really thinking about it … there is not even a way of stopping these popups interfering with your system either … iv looked in the settings .. unless you shut off all the shields leaving you vulnerable … fix this or lose a very valuable fan of this software

This is a right royal pain in the backside. Whilst I’m not entirely sure what these popups are that you are getting.

I had my Firewall and Network Inspector set up so I didn’t get these notifications, then I updated to Avast Free 25.2.xxxx (I have program updates set to manual).

Something in that update screwed the pooch and literally every network connection generated a popup. I was furious and started checking/changing settings until they stopped.

Unfortunately being somewhat pi55ed off at the time I didn’t document what I did to kill it.

See my settings below, that however may be dependant on what your system setup is.

I’m in the UK

cool im right at the bottom on a tiny rock called the isle of wight

Oxfordshire, north of Oxford.

It’s horrendous. Not only do the constant “Buy this Avast product NOW” become incessant, especially if you had a subscription and are daring not to renew (Sorry Avast but I lost my job in the game industry layoffs), but they use exactly the same tactics as the very worst spyware, claiming you have riddled with viruses, spyware and faults, yet if you do renew and run a scan, it turns out that you weren’t, at all.

The popups also minimise whatever you were working on at the time and refocus the window on themselves, and on occassion this causes high-memory apps to crash - and these interruptions happen multiple times throughout the day, becoming incredibly annoying.

I want my anti-virus, anti-spyware tools to not make my PC act like it’s 2003 again and the last user infested my PC with Bonzi Buddy

I have the premious version of Avast One and I am also getting unnessiscary popups despite sellecting all of the settings that are suposed to stop popups.

Not sure if you have come here seeking or to get it of your chest.

If it is the former try this reply - Why all of a sudden all these forced popups !? - #2 by DavidR

If its the latter as an Avast user and not an Avast Team member I can’t help with that.

As you don’t indicate what these pop-ups are it is hard to even hazard a guess.

If they are the same, I don’t know if the Avast One products have the same settings and configurability as the Avast Antivirus product. I don’t use the Avast One product so I can’t speak from personal experience.

Note there is a specific section of the forum dedicated to Avast One products here: Avast One - Avast Community

Just uninstall the latest version of Avast and revert back to the previous version:
DISCLAIMER :

Downgrading to a previous version might put you at risk as the 'Engine' has
instructions that are updated in each Version of Avast and may have included
a new instruction or a re-write of instruction sets that is in the program that operates
the engine and works with the Virus Definition database a certain way (how it reads it)
and how the program applies those actions, and use certain algorithms to understand
the functions of viruses, malware, trojans, PUPs, etc., and how they interact with your
system - Avast's engine protects things in a certain way and also uses the
Definitions Database to find and neutralize threats.

You here by acknowledge that by downgrading to a previous version changes this behavior
to a prior version of instruction sets that might re-introduce a flaw in the way the
engine works with the Virus Definition Database to combat these threats, putting you at
risk of potential infection.
You agree that this is solely your responsibility should you proceed - Use caution and
common sense by using backup protection: e.g Have Malwarebytes along side Avast for
protection, utilize firewall setups, use common sense when opening files & Compressed
folders, and use protection in your browser (e.g uBlockOrigin) - Don't visit bad sites!

I will not be held liable for any damages that may occur if the user fails to do things
to secure themselves prior to downgrading.

The safe link to download the offline installer for Avast Antivirus is located here:
https://s-iavs9x.avcdn.net/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe (this is Avast’s file service server).
This link naturally will download the latest version however, you can get a previous version with this link by searching in the Archive.org database.

If you go to https://web.archive.org/ and drop the link above and search it you will find snapshots of this ( I chose March 5th) and download the version that was available at that time {Version: 25.2.6150a (build 25.2.9898.924)}

Once you do this scan it with Avast and Malwarebytes to insure it is safe (I did and it was clean).
Then uninstall the current Version of Avast, Reboot computer,
Disconnect from the internet IMPORTANT!: This is crucial to prevent Avast from auto updating to latest version once you install the older version!!!

  1. Install old Avast.
  2. Open up Avast Antivirus GUI.
  3. Open Menu/Settings/Update/
  4. Select More Options under Avast Free Antivirus updates
  5. Select I’ll Update it Manually
  6. Re-Enable Internet/WiFi
  7. Update your Virus Definitions
  8. Wait for Avast to push another update to fix this wild bug and then re-enable Avast Free Antivirus updates.

I successfully downgraded to Version 25.2.6150a (build 25.2.9898.924)
I have not gotten any spam from notifications anymore since I downgraded..
