i cant understand it, Avast program update has been buried in the settings menu, a ‘Software updater’ has been included for a while now in Avast and definitions update automatically, so why isn’t Avast listed in the ‘software updater’ to inform you when the program is out of date and there are updates for it??
avast by default is set to automatically update and you will get a message when a update fails.
It will also tell you if it is out of date.
you can change this behavior as you wish in the settings.
the software updater is mend for third party applications, not for avast itself.
There’s a separate place and process for it to notify you of an available program update.

If you set the program update to “Automatic” it will still not happen instantly.
It could take weeks for it to happen (I think it’s based on server load)
thats strange, mines set to ‘ask when an update is availible’ but it’s never given me a message that there is a program update, i checked for update and it downloaded and installed one.
Again, it could also take a while to notify you (server load).
Obviously by doing it manually, you won’t have the problem.
I’ve had occasions where I’ve failed to see notices of pending update, then found one via the [Update] button - exactly as you’ve described, roguekiller. As Alikhan has said, Avast! has so many installations worldwide that if they were all aggressive about automatically updating it might kill their servers.
Or there might be a notification bug.
