why it takes 100% CPU?

i whud like to know why my ashavast.exe or whatever its called (yes its an AVAST file not a virus, as once i terminate it, avast errors) sometimes give me 100 cpu usage?!? ust for about 5-10 sec but its REALY annoying

how do i fix this? or do i need to go for a diffrent anti-virus program?

i have latest version of program and vdb ofc

First check out this article, as Microsoft has a Help and Support file that sometimes goes rampant. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839017 In this article they state that…“The Helpsvc.exe process may use up to 100% of the CPU resources on your computer…” I’ve had my computers Hard Drive just working away and nothing really working, and come to find out it was this. I changed the Help and Support status from “Automatic” to “Manual” in the services. START, RUN type in “services.msc” without the quotes.

it STILL happens!

and to clearyfi becoues it seems some dont understand… ITS AN AVAST FILE, not anything else, its “ashServ.exe”

The ashServ.exe is the main scanning engine, so it may be scanning something or stalled.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Is the avast ’ a ’ icon rotating when the CPU is at 100% ?

This option, ‘Show detailed info on performed actions’ is off by default, so enable it and see what it is scanning

.

We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • As David asked, do you have any other antivirus installed in your system? Did you have in the past?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?
  • In XP/Vista, is there any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’?

you guys know what solved it?

Uninstalling avast
