Recent software update removed the free limited VPN.
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
As far as I’m aware it is now a stand alone product I don’t believe it is in the Avast Premium Security either now.
I use Avast One free version. It included 5 gigs free VPN for a couple of days and then would reset to the 5 gig limit. As prompted, I did a software update and the free VPN was gone and now forced to get the paid version. The question is why the change without any prior warning.
I can’t speak for Avast, but it wasn’t only withdrawn from Avast One Free but all Avast One programs.
My thought would be cost and providing a VPN network for a larger number of countries.
As an avast Antivirus Free user for over 21 years it never had a VPN and I never felt the need to use one.
Up until recently I had never used a VPN, but I did try Proton VPN the free version which is limited to 3 VPN locations. I have only used it for a few occasions, just to test it. However VPNs can have unexpected issues, in the Avast Forum for example it shows some content in the language of the IP address of the VPN. The same could be true of other sites.
I just noticed that my VPN was removed from my licensed product; Avast Premium Security during the term for which it was agreed to and purchased. I believe that we have a case for a class action suit. You can’t sell a package for a term then remove a feature to be sold separately after you have licensed it for a period. If the VPN was still available until the term was expired, then this would not be an issue.
If you bought a car and GM decided to remove the engine and require you purchase an upgrade to restore it, you would be livid!
Same here! When I try to enable VPN now on my Premium subscription it says “your wifi is safe”. On another screen of Avast it warns me that I am vulnerable and should enable VPN??? Going round in circles! Have you managed to contact Avast customer service in regard to this unilateral change to their agreed offering?
