With out IE, how are you updating your windows operating system?
You cannot uninstall IE from the windows OS. You CAN delete references to it.
Many computer functions within Windows are intergrated with IE.
You may find that you have lessened functionality and caused problems that you did not need.
IE does not take up that much space. The fact that you use Mozilla should not be a reason to remove IE which is necessary for Windows Update.
I have Mozilla, Firefox and an IE overlay (Avant) on my computer.
Reconsider and reinstall.
Hi Techie101,
and an IE overlay (Avant) on my computerWhich requires that IE is on your system. :)
avast! could not update… Help files could not be read… I’m not sure but you will have some troubles uninstalling IE. You can use other browser but IE has a lot of integrations under Windows
bob,
Any overlay requires the base program to remain installed.
but…good to point out to the user.
I have windows 98 and it is working fine without IE.
I heard that Windows98 has less crashes after you take off IE.
this is the program I used to remove it.
Deleted IE to safe spaceBetter put the things you don't use on cd/dvd instead. (movies/music, things like that) or get another harddrive.
I heard that Windows98 has less crashes after you take off IE.Not true. Sure IE can give a error, but so can each application. 98se is running on one of my systems for about 7 years without any error at all.
I agree with Technical, just use a browser of your choice next to IE. Use IE only to go to windows update to get/install ALL security patches/updates.
Just put IE back on the system. start > control panel > add/remove > windows components
If you do like many people do
eg downloading music/movies, installing applications to test and such
perhaps it is time for a format and a clean install to really clean the system from application leftovers, unneeded registry entries and things like that. That will give you back quiet some space.
gerrythegreat
I have windows 98 and it is working fine without IE.I would still like to know how you update your operating system with out IE installed???? You must not be using the MS update site. Or, maybe you arent updating at all????
Bob, each windows version (95 and up) has a update function build in. No need to go to the website for updates. But the website normally works much faster and you can see/select what is updated or not
And I see people mixing up things here. IE can be integrated to the system but it depends on what version of windows you have. On 98(se) it is a standalone application and can be removed completely without causing problems for the system to function
easy, just go here - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/Downloads/default.mspx - with Mozila or any other browser and download the patches …
Bob, aren’t most MS patches IE / OE related? If both programs are not on your computer…

Your right if your using Linux, you don’t need windows updates.
Artras
To use the update function requires IE.
Goner
Sorry, but my operating system is updated at the source. Not from a third party.
But, that’s only my opinion.
For those who don’t want to download all the updates each time after a fresh installation of windows. Updates/patches can be downloaded here. You can put them on a cd and use that to patch a system.
There is also a FREE(!) cd with many updates/patches including sp1. You can order it here. There are no costs for this at all. Everything is paid by MS including the shipping costs.
I meant if you were using Win98 and had IE removed.
3rd party !!! did you actually read the URL ?? it’s MicroSoft … only instead of automagically updating, you download the patches as executables and run them.
Hi Goner,
I appologize, I did misread the link.

Then you would not be able to use the Windows Update function and have to do what Goner does.
Personally, I still pref. the update site then I’m sure I see all the updates that my system is lacking.
