Win:32;Kuang2

I was installing a codec pack and avast said it found the virus Win:32;Kuang2. I opted to delete it but when I clicked delete it flashed a message, (which I didn’t have time to read), and minimized back to the system tray. The codec pack then appeared to finish installing. I didn’t know if the virus was deleted or what happened. So I made sure my virus definitions were up to date and did a full system scan. Nothing was found…I looked in the virus chest and nothing. I looked at the log under WARNING and it says: Sign of "Win:32;Kuang2 has been found in “C:\Program Files\ACE Mega CoDecS Pack\Anti-Virus\Quick Remove\PAVCL.COM[UPX]” file. I’ve never used Panda either.
That directory doesn’t even exist on my system so it leads me to believe the program never finished installing. So i’m not sure if the virus is still lurking about or not. Any thoughts?

With the path and file name there would appear to be some association with Panda although you haven’t got it installed. Perhaps the appearance was what they were after so it wouldn’t be summarily deleted.

Although the file pavcl.com doesn’t bring any hits in Google, which in itself is strange if it was a genuine Panda file. Perhaps the ‘ACE Mega CoDecS Pack’ had some form of anti-virus check, you would have to check.

I suggest that you Schedule a boot-time scan from within avast if you OS is WinNT, Win2k or WinXP.
