Win 32 Malware-gen

Hi, I have been getting notifications from AVAST lately , all related to Win 32 Malware-gen. My internet has been significantly slower than usual; I don’t know if this is related to me manually deleting the files in the original folder that Avast found. I have attached the requested logs. I also installed Kaspersky Lab and did a run, I deleted the threats but it keeps telling me malware is found…

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Please note that I ran the scan (attached log in this post) on Malwarebytes without updating when prompted- it froze numerous times when I tried to update it.

Edited: I have been successful in updating the Malwarebytes program and doing another scan at the moment. I think it was Malwarebytes that alerted me I had a Backdoor? infected file which I have deleted. I will post a new log once it is done.

I couldn’t attach all the files so here is the OTL and Extras logs. Thank you!

Could you attach a screenshot of the Avast alert please as that has more detail on it

Thank you for replying, see the image attached. I have also attached the UPDATED Malwarebytes scan log. Thank you!

Could you run this programme and then rescan with Avast

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

[*] Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
[*]It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
[*]Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
[*]Once it’s finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

^ I have ran both scans and also did a system restore on the computer (2 days ago). The internet is working like it used to. During my Avast scan, the below malware (see attached photo) popped up.

The Avast full scan said no threats were found.

Hmm the second instance of that net file causing an alert

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

I have ran the scan and attached the log. Thank you once again!

Computer Status:

  1. Internet running fine
  2. Avast has so far not detected any malware atm.

OK if all is well tomorrow let me know and I will remove my rubbish

I will let you know tomorrow then. I have a question- what should I do with the files in the virus chest in Avast? Should I select all and delete it or ?

Delete them from the chest

Deleted the files in the virus chest. Computer is working great! Avast has not detected any further malware problems ;D I have a question though- is the Avast icon supposed to spin in the system tray constantly? It sometimes spin and sometimes it doesn’t.

Avast will rotate as you access files/folders/web sites etc…

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

thank you for answering the spinning icon question.

The computer was working fine until I turned on the auto-sandbox in Avast- the files would not save in the Downloads folder so I then turned off the auto sandbox. It was fine until the morning after (May 20th) when I realized I couldn’t save any files from IE. I don’t know what is wrong with it because I turned the sandbox off and rebooted the computer two times but it was no use. I did a system restore point (May 18th) and it works fine now.

I completed the steps you listed above and Avast gave me a malware pop-up (attached in this reply) when I was running Comboxfix uninstall. It also produced a log which I have attached in this reply. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you.

Aye you had a space before the uninstall so combofix ignored that command  ANd Avast was not happy with what combofix was doing (unusual)

Remove ComboFix

Have you set IE to permanently run in sandbox ?

I tried following your command above and windows gave me a popup that read “Windows cannot find ‘Combofix’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.”

Sandbox: no I don’t believe I tuned IE to sandbox. I can download files fine for now with automatic sandbox turned off.

thank you~

Not a problem with combofix as OTL probably removed it

I believe you may have inadvertently set IE to run in sandbox at all times

Ahhh I see. thank you again for your help! ;D
