Win XP infinite loop while booting

Will Do. will download Acronis Drive Monitor to test HDD unless you have a better suggestion.

Thanks for your assistance.

This whole exercise raised a question in my mind.

For the XP machine in question, when I booted to Recovery console, I was asked for password of ‘Administrator’ account (the default one). Thankfully I remembered the password for this account which was set when I installed XP on this laptop.

For my other machine which is Win-7 Pro 64-bit, I do not think I remember the ‘Administrator’ password. What feature, other than digging up the installation disk and going to Recovery console, can I go to where the system asks for password for ‘Administration’ to see if I remember the password. And if not, then what are the options to reset this password?

It depends whether you mean system administrator or ordinary administrator

With windows 7 you can change or delete users (including admin) from the user accounts in control panel

I meant the default Administrator account in Windows, not users that I set up in Admin role.

So, if one uses Windows CD to boot and goes into Recovery console, one would be prompted to enter password for default Administrator account. Many times, people leave it blank. But I think I entered a password but am not sure which password I used. So am now thinking how to get to a feature that would prompt me for this password in Win-7 other than using Win-7 DVD and going the Recovery console route.

Not to sure about that, it should be the same as the main admin account

ok, thanks for your help in getting my machine up and running.

Enjoy your vacation.

My pleasure and thanks
